QUOTE(Hades76 @ Nov 18 2020, 06:47 PM) Been playing pallet wood for 3 years now. Just a hobbyist. I get my supply from either factories or Mudah sellers. bro, pallet wood possible to "ketam" it then sand it until no splinter? i plan to make some small gate for my toddlers..From factory is rough pine wood and good for rustic feel. Sellers usually already planed the wood so its more uniform, best for furniture and so on. Have fun. |

QUOTE(mi-g @ Nov 19 2020, 08:07 AM) bro, pallet wood possible to "ketam" it then sand it until no splinter? i plan to make some small gate for my toddlers.. Yes it possible. I have sanded so many pallet wood in the past 3 years. By hand it will take sometime and you need to start rough 180 grit or so, then move to 220 or 240 to finish it. Sanding is time consuming, until I bought a sander to ease my life. If you sekali sekala then sand by hand lah. If you got interest, time to get power tools. If you want to ketam yourself, its very painstaking. I use to do it until now malas already. mi-g liked this post

QUOTE(mactreouser @ Nov 18 2020, 07:29 PM) That's and what I wish start from! At first,I thought pinewood in Malaysia is pricey! Not at all? Pine wood is considered soft wood ad thus good for not so serious furniture. If its for serious furniture then need proper bracing from other wood or metal. Mind to share the seller contact like Facebook or Shopee account? Eh, showcase your masterpiece Bro 😁 Sure! Erm, what's the different of Pinewood vs Pallet Wood? Pine wood is nice for finishing as its fair wood. However, its not weather friendly. That you will need either multiple layers of paint or polyurethane. No masterpriece bro. All like rough work. Make stuff not for sale. Just to pass time. LOL |

QUOTE(mactreouser @ Nov 20 2020, 10:17 PM) Cool! Will check it out! For proper protection, you will need paint as in coloured paint. They offer the best protection for weather ( sun and water ). Polyurethane works the same but its a clear coat. This you will need to apply multiple layers which is kinda leceh. Wow... This is so informative to a newbie ! Thanks. So, if build for Sit like Stool? Wow... Super nice wood! Look like, mahal kan? Aiyaya. Kalau macam tu, kayu from shopee hanya OK for Decoration? Duduk, tidur, makan... Tak boleh? Some old school people even use diesel to paint the soft wood for water resistance. Diesel will be absorbed into the wood and makes it waterproof. However this will stink for a while. Plywood use paint if you can. If possible dont use plywood for toilet ( wet ) doors. After a while it will split. My plywood in the house after 1.5 years split also even though its dry and indoors. For stools I like to use the pallet brace, which is thicker. If you notice a pallet has the top face ( which is lots of small wood ) and below it there is like a brace ( usually 3 pieces). I use the brace for stool legs as its thicker and can handle more weight. |
