Hi there, I intend to change my existing staircase railings from glass/stainless-steel to mild-steel/wooden handles. The existing SS started to show patches of rust. My contractor quoted RM9500 for the new railings (- I honestly do not know what price range is reasonable but this seemed very high to me. The other option recommended was to remove the SS and have it powder coat with paint, which I have read does not last and there is a high chance the paint will peel over time. This option was quoted RM4500.
I'm looking for someone who has similar experience to changing new railings, how much you paid so I could have a reference, if you'd be kind enough to share the contact please.
Thank you!

How can a SS rust?? My staircase rails is full SS bars and already 10 years, never see any sign of rust also.

using 202 grade eventually it will rush after few years. i know many of the S/Steel contractors will use 202 grade mixing with 304 when doing their work.

So if mixing type, then if use magnet to test it, it will stick the magnet, rite? I tried on my SS rails with magnet just now and it's not sticking at all.

I tried on my SS rails with magnet just now and it's not sticking at all. im not sure about that. but i have one preference contractor who solely use grade 304 only told me there were many guys mixing 202 and 304 together in the market. if you see it rusts not because of the dent or cracked caused by you on the bar, then it is not grade 304.

Try use autosol metal polish first...
SS/glass change to mild steel/wood seems to be a downgrade for me

Thanks for all your reply - I got in touch with another company today and she too wants to know if the stains/rust can be removed so I'll be sending her some close up pictures first, then take it from there.
