hey guys.. i am thinking to get my dad an M1 macbook air, the RM4399 base spec... hoping apple Malaysia reduce the price slightly la since exchange rate now around 4.00 only..
generally he would just use the laptop to watch video, and do some microsoft office application work at most... 8gb version is more than enough right.. at first thought of getting those lenovo thinkbook 15inch, but then i think it is good for him to enjoy the good speakers & screen colour / resolution of a mac at his age.. i am still using the 2012 15" rMBP till today.... it is still a very capable machine for me... QUOTE(Zaryl @ Feb 1 2021, 11:28 PM) I just pulled the trigger and bought MBA M1 16GB 1TB SSD via education pricing few minutes ago via Apple Malaysia website. If you were to get a PD hub, never ever charge ur macbook thru the PD portTook the Apple care protection too. ETA around 24 feb to 3 march. Bought it for my wife since her MBA 2014 4GB 256GB showing its ages already. Planning to grab her old MBA & compliment it with my ipad pro 2018 11” LTE. Btw, i am also planning to buy Ugreen USB C hub with the dual USB C inputs at Shopee. You guys got any problems using it so far? How about the infamous Wifi interference when using the hub? Still happens? Hub gets hot after a while? Appreciate your feedback guys. |

QUOTE(Zaryl @ Feb 2 2021, 02:29 PM) There are some postings on reddit... saying any PD items that charges ur macbok will cause ur macbook to brick, this also includes LG's USB C PD Monitors...i'll get a USB C hub, but the USB C port shall only be limited to peripheral stuffs... charging will still be using original charger + independent USB-C port This post has been edited by rickyro: Feb 2 2021, 02:47 PM |

QUOTE(Zaryl @ Feb 2 2021, 04:02 PM) Like this i might as well get the official apple USB C AV multi adapter just to be on the safe side. Charging thru official multi adaptor will have such problem too.. But i don't think that rm349 dongle supports PDOr charging thru the official adapter will have similar problem? Any good non-PD USB C hub you can recommend? |

QUOTE(Zaryl @ Feb 2 2021, 05:23 PM) How about this one? You recommend this? RM158 for that is okay.. RM158 via shopee vs RM349 official Apple multi AV adapter USBC DLink USB C hub without PD ![]() I’ve read thru several reddits on USBC hubs bricked out MBA & MBP M1 when users powers their machine thru the hub. But for me, I'll prefer to get a hub that still has a USB C port, but just remember to not use the PD function Zaryl liked this post

QUOTE(Eithanius @ Feb 3 2021, 10:58 PM) It got to me fast maybe becoz i taruh Tim Apple an email which prompted a next-day call from Apple SG to find out what was going on... Apparently I found a bug on Apple's Online Store which prevented me from updating my payment method... Hmm.. I thought once we make payment for the product, no way to change the payment method anymore? |

QUOTE(HeartR0bber @ Feb 4 2021, 10:22 PM) my macbook air just got bricked yesterday, Oh dear... I was just reminding ppl in the macbook pro thread about this and it happened to you... connect to my usb-c hub with hdmi cable on it, leave it to sleep and charge, next morning dead the laptop wont turn on and there is a ticking like noise when i press the power button looks like the issue is related to usb-c port with PD (power delivery), so pls get a proper usb-c hub and certified apple thunderbolt devices. Other than that i love everything about it, doing work, compile some huge code works so much faster than my own desktop But then what is a proper USB C hub... Even PD charging via a LG Monitor also bricked the macbook according to reddit Ashroft98 liked this post

QUOTE(Ashroft98 @ Feb 5 2021, 08:37 AM) Noted on that. However, if I'm planning to only use the usb-c on the hub to connect ssd, will that also might brick the macbook? Or is it just PD charging related. the risk is more on the PD charging issue...Same same. Don't want to take any risk. But maybe can still use the USB-C ports for peripherals? QUOTE(johnsonxray @ Mar 6 2021, 08:27 PM) Whats the alt browser you guys use besides safari and chrome? Microsoft EdgeTried to use chrome but its really consuming too much resources and generating a lot heat also..I tested using chrome to watch some live Twitch streaming on full screen and the cpu reached 100c, while safari only recorded at around 50+ degree on the same video streaming settings. Safari is no doubt a good browser, but just wanted to know if there is something better outside. |

QUOTE(un_id @ Mar 17 2021, 09:43 PM) Hey guys.. i’ve been not keeping up with mac or other brand laptops for many years, my 15” macbook pro has serve me very long.. but its due time for a major upgrade.. i’ve been looking for verious brands, initially thought that i might find something better elsewhere... but then again i started to read about praises on the M1 apple chip.. so, please advise me on few questions below. But first, i’m going to spec to highest end laptop possible, with budget cap up to RM15k. I would personally go for the m1 and wouldnt spend more than rm7k for the custom spec macbook pro m1...1. Is the M1 macbook a big deal? Is there any other powerful laptop brand to compete this within my budget? 2. Between M1 and i9 macbook pro (top spec) which one to go? 3. I realize macbook air now having similar spec to macbook pro.. how to even choose between them? If macbook air is as powerful as the pro, then the air is a better choice because its lighter and more portable? Any advise will be appreciated and thanks in advance Which means 16gb/512gb is sufficient The fan in the macbook pro only turns on occasionally for the m1... It is really cool.... Since the air and pro is only 1.2k difference, why don't just go for the pro, screen also brighter This post has been edited by rickyro: Mar 17 2021, 10:16 PM |
