I made a big move to buy an iPhone 12. It's my first-ever iPhone in my entire life as I'm an Android fan since my Motorola Milestone way back in 2010.
I can't resist the good offer (~RM3,890)
- 128gb for the price of 64gb
- Physical dual nano SIM (HK set)
- Original Apple 20W charger

I haven't opened it yet as I'm waiting for my screen protector (iPhones are known to get a lot of micro scratches which is a big no for me). I was leaning towards the blue but not sure I would still like the color after a few months so I picked the black one.

I still have my Pixel 4. Now I can really compare the image quality of 2 of the best phone brands in the market.
I don't believe in tech reviewers because they have personal biases anyway just like everyone else.

I ordered yesterday and got it today.

HK. Only Hong Kong set have physical dual nano sim.

I think Apple already covered what were lacking in previous models when it comes to image.
Night sight for all the lenses including front camera.

I'll do some comparison in the coming weeks in regards to iOS 14 and Android 11.

A few hours using the iPhone 12 (coming from Pixel 4). I’m pretty sure you won’t agree but the user interface including navigation/settings is messy. As for the camera, it’s too early to judge since I just took a couple of pics which look identical to Pixel. Like I am using the same exact camera. I like the selfie cam since it has some filter (making skin tone brighter and warmer) unlike the Pixel 4 which is too natural you can see your pores and eye bags lol.

I suggest you try the cheaper iPhone 12 first since you mentioned this is your first time to try iOS. That's what i did. I was torn between Pixel 5 and iPhone 12 but since I came from Pixel 4, I'd rather try something different this time around.

I'm still testing the waters when it comes to software. There are some hiccups here and there. I feel iOS isn't quite polished as I expected it to be BUT that's not to say that I don't like it. I'm giving it a try and see if this phone will make me stick to iOS.

I just noticed something weird with my iPhone 12. The screen flickers after taking a shot in a very dim environment. The display flickers for 1-2 seconds and then goes back to normal.
It's only noticeable in minimum brightness.

For now there are only few decent cases in the market.
This might do for a while. And as always, matte screen protector for me from Blackwhale.

That's a very long wait. They should have mentioned this in their website before accepting pre-orders.

iPhone 12 Screen on time ~ 7 hours with mixed usage but mostly just social apps and some YouTube videos. Manually counted the screen usage after full charge.

FYI: connected to wifi. Definitely lower SOT if using mobile data.

Depends how many hours you use your phone per day. I counted manually after full charge from 100%. Apple is quite sneaky not showing real SOT in screen usage and instead will count from midnight regardless how many times you plug your phone. Lol

If only portrait mode in iPhone 12 is zoomed in (like the Pixel 5 with no telephoto hardware) to avoid lens distortion in your face (assuming you want close up shots).

Register using your laptop then sign in using your iPhone.

I used the same software to transfer Whatsapp messages, photos and videos.
Videos were transferred but files were corrupted (try playing back a video and it will only play the first few seconds).

Opening PDF file works for me. It could be the software issue itself because we are using..*cough* copy.

As expected, image from the iPhone is too warm and surprisingly crushing the details in the shadows (hence, reviewers say having deep blacks).



Cropping into the pics, there isn't much difference aside from the color balance.


I don't buy in the "deep fusion" marketing coin because all flagship phones these days have excellent image quality.
Although front camera is a different story altogether.

Black iPhone 12 on blue leather looks sick imo.
A white iPhone 12 will also match with this color.

Did you manually count the screen on time from the time you fully charged your phone upto zero? The reason is the screen usage shown in iPhones will start counting from 12 midnight regardless how many times you charge. This isn't a reliable way to get your SOT so the 11 hours+ may include the screen on time from previous charge.
