well,.. i got few living proof,... few of my schoolmate having dual citizenship,.. they did told me about this trick,.. u surrendering others citizenship in malaysia soil,... but actually malaysia authority got no power to cancel it,..,they will sent the passport to embassy or diplomat,.. and tell them this is our citizen, he want them to cancel the non malaysia citizenship,... the embassy or diplomat will also cannot simply cancel,.. they need your permission,..

so there's a law,.. but there's also a loop hole,..

You may be right. Malaysia cant simply auto cancel your citizenship.

Infact, if they catch you, they will likely give you two options. Either cancel Malaysian citizenship or surrender over your foreign country passport.

You should always pick option b) surrender your foreign passport. As if that country allows dual citizenship, you can easily apply back in the future.

Deprivation of citizenship on acquisition or exercise of foreign citizenship

(1) If the Federal Government is satisfied that any citizen has acquired by registration, naturalization or other voluntary and formal act (other than marriage) the citizenship of any country outside the Federation, the Federal Government may by order deprive that person of his citizenship.

(2) If the Federal Government is satisfied that any citizen has voluntarily claimed and exercised in any country outside the Federation any rights available to him under the law of that country, being rights accorded exclusively to its citizens, the Federal Government may by order deprive that person of his citizenship.

Keyword is May.

Meaning, it isn't automatic.

On the practical side, why are we keeping these people anyway? If they want to go, just go.

Personally, I couldn't care less too whether these people get their citizenship cancelled.

But likewise, the law says it isn't automatic cancellation either.

But I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if they get their citizenship cancelled, since they are already living outside of Malaysia and have their own life in their adopted country. More power to them.

If Malaysia wants to modernized, they should drop this rule. Allow dual citizenship since we dont really have compulsory NS, what difference would it make if a citizen holds two passports or more?

Politically, there’s no appetite for it.

Economically, seeing that Malaysia is a socialist country with brain drain, there’d be more Malaysians working and paying tax outside the country than inside. But they would be entitled to use public services here, i.e public healthcare here should they need/want to. So, net loss.

I agree. Hence why Im holding Singkie PR still and not convert to SG citizenship. Anyways, SG will auto cancel your malaysian citizenship , and notify malaysian government, so you don't have a choice really.

I will likely switch to SG citizenship if my kids start schooling in SG. It's cheaper and they will get access to the benefits in SG.

I used to hold Aussie PR since young and for 20+ years, but gave it up, after I considered my options and career move back to Asia and finally closed the chapter on Australia. At least I got a good pay-out from my superannuation. LOL.
