For those who are looking for food disposal or would like to know how it works, we can discuss here. I got a chance to test CAVARRO food waste disposal and it is powerful, able to grind everything that i put into it within seconds. Since i have a working unit here, anything u guys would like to know or see, i can try my best to answer and share info as well.

I don’t want to prejudge a local product but how can one compare to brand such as Insinkerator? Insinkerator has been around for ages, long before we use it in Malaysian kitchens. I used Insinkerator even as a student in US. This brand is reliable and performs flawless in my kitchen more than 12 years. The warranty depends on the model. My model 66 is 4 yrs. higher models are longer.

Another thing ... it is rather stupid to demo garbage disposal using hard bones. The garbage disposal may be strong but not indestructible. Grinding bones will drastically shorten the life of the unit and may void the warranty.

One should learn what to put in and what not to put in to the garbage disposal. Do a Google and you will know.

1. Really need to c brand and online review. Cant jus tell a product is good or not at one glance.

2. Mainly big bones like pork, lamb and etc etc not recommended. Corn with thread or corn silk or anything high in fibre also not recommended. Potato skin, banana peels and similar nope as could clogged up the pipe though it can be crushed as it will form a gluey or strach like when in contact with water.

3. Water can still flow when the machine is not on

4. Fill the sink with water and let in run to flush the pipe ocassionally.

5. Depending on brands. Cavarro is 3 years parts and labour. Some brands 1 year. Some brands 3 years on parts only, labour not included

For safety reason, some brands like cavarro includes a plunger like the blender to grind without touching the impellars. Kleengard has this as well but i think insink tak ada. May b other forumers who are using other brands can share some some videos and info smile.gif

Landed houses have open drains at the back of the house. Kitchen pipes lead to there there. Just wondering how dirty it would be if all the grounded bones, skin, basically all the crap u would throw in the dustbin now it would be in your drains outside. Wouldn’t this be super unhygienic and smelly? Can’t imagine it though.

Now waste water discharge from all houses must direct to iwk pipe line. Unless those owners want to short cut ...lodge complaint to local authority.

But if what you say is true for old houses, one dont need to use the disposal to have smell ... it would have started from day 1.

here u go, 2nd video, waste water collected after disposing lots of chicken bones, fish bones, fish head and etc etc

Here is my honest review of the food waste disposal and the waste water
1) with the cavarro 0.8hp, disposing is fast

2) Waste water is smelly but after drain out and flush with clean water, smell is gone. After several use, the machine might have a little smell depending on how clean u flush the food out, if got smell, let it grind a little citrus food. Recommended to fill up half of your sink and release to flush it.

3) There will b a little bit of food sunken at the bottom of the drain but with heavy rain, it will eventually flush everything away

Note 3....

I believe this machine is to be used in enclosed disposal pipe system.

Otherwise, the little bit of sunken food at the bottom everyday will attract flies, rats and smells while waiting for heavy rain to clean the drain. By then, most of the residue would have harden.

In a high rise, my kitchen sink's waste pipe run - after dropping to floor level, it has a horizontal pipe about 3 meters run before it goes into the common drain pipe. I'm afraid to put solid wastes into it because if anything stuck there its gonna be a challenge to unclog.

Along the whole stretch of the drain, there bound to be certain area where other rubbish will be trapped, overgrown plants or broken drain that stop the smooth flow of waste water.

Somehow, somewhere along the drain, someone house is gonna have to endure the smell, rat or cockroach.....but not the user.

If one walks behind foodshops, even with grease trap, the whole area doesnt smell and look pleasant.

A good product for the kitchen, nevertheless the brand.

There is always a risk to throw everything or anything into the waste water discharge pipe over a period of time.

Pardon me but this thread seems like the suitable one to ask... is anyone using Kleengard waste disposal? My sub sale house come with it but it's been some years. Currently whenever I turn on the machine it making really loud sound thus I am thinking should I dispose the machine or find some technician to come check or do maintenance.

If you are using this brand, kindly let me know your experience, is it reliable? Any do and don't? What's the maintenance down the road? Is 13A plug sufficient for it?

I am using Insinkerator but Kleengard should work similarly. You need to explain what is "loud"? May be video/audio to show? Just like any mechanical device it will have problem if not used for some time. I have 2 Insinkerators and one is more than 9 years. These devices are tough but you have to be diligent in maintaining them. That I meant no metal falls inside. Avoid grinding bones. Turn it on while allowing water running. Etc etc.

Newer and more expensive ones have dual motors and much more quiet. I doubt yours is so it is normal to have sound similar to small motor running sound.

If indeed it has problem my advice is to replace the whole unit. You need to pay to get a technician to come. Part change will cost money. The new one is probably 1k to 2k. Not worth the trouble
