QUOTE(ray148 @ Oct 28 2020, 01:18 PM) P. Ramlee must've been the main subject of criticism by Malay conservatives back then considering how his political leaning is conveniently absent from history books. when p ramlee returns to malaysia he was shunned by malay film production, he got no sponsors, no budget, and was all around hated by malay film producers hereGuess this is one of those "history written by winners" thing. thats why he died poor and in bad health if u watch his documentary it’s really really sad |

He didn't sugarcoat his movies. If there is a drink scene, he do the drink scene. Gambling, social criticism and many more, even sex. But he did it in artsy way. It was normal everyday scene back then. Why would he change to please somebody else view.

The hypocrites that grieved for him AFTER he died, probably of a broken heart.thats why he died poor and in bad health if u watch his documentary it’s really really sad He was also too generous with lending money to his friends. Yes, the documentary was great but I'm not sure why they didn't name the bad guys outright. |

QUOTE(plouffle0789 @ Oct 28 2020, 04:17 PM) He was very meticulous and concerned with the quality of films. So, he had actors do a lot of re-shoots that necessitated overtime. Given the labour unions at that time was asking for more pay, Shaw Bros put some pressure on him to get his films made under budget. |
