There are two files that need to be deleted before upgrading. See link mentioned above.

DO NOT DELETE THESE FILES!
MY FSONE MOD WILL NOT LOAD NOW.
OTHER MODS DO LOAD OK.

After going through Win. 3.1, 95/98. XP, I've learned to wait when new releases come out.

My test rFactor on drive D is messed up now but my original one is still intact on C:

I ve deleted my non working rFactor directory after the failed first attempt with the update and copied rFactor that works from my C: drive to my D: drive.

Then I applied the update to rFactor D:. Fsone still looks the same and splash screen still says v1.52.

This is how i installed the fixed 1.8

I ran rfactor and changed the mod. So i wont start on FSONE the next time. Then i deleted the FSONE.rfm and the FSONE UIDATA folder...(actually i just move it somewhere else..) then i launch the fixed 1.8 installer.

Next time i start the splash screen does say 1.8.

Then I load nurburg and load my 1.52 setup. bottoming out everywhere....jack up the ride height and stiffen the suspension to the max then no more sparks. Be  more sensitive to bottoming out in this update coz its can really shave ur top speed coz ur car pressed hard on the track at high speed.

n some tweaks on the boost, suspension and bumps (stiffen them up) some wing adjustment (coz speed has increased)..after 20 odd laps im on with dzariq time mid 1.30 on 25 laps of fuel...super soft.

I reckon i would need to tweak my ctrller settings tho coz its getting a little nervous...especially on throttle. (corner exits).

I think an update for us is good but we might have to replace US and monaco.
Nice one kimi....i'll be on that man!
*
Thank you so much! Mara's instructions solved my problem.

Wow, my present Nurburg setup was useless, I also had to also increase ride height, packers, etc. Dunno much what I'm doing on suspension yet, I'll have some reading to do... I had never felt the car drag onto the road so much before...

There is much more appreciated grip. Could it be that up until now they had made mistakes regarding grip, as in not enough?

Although I like the increase in nervousness with the car, I think we should maybe stay with 1.52 for now because if we change to 1.8 we will have to relearn the cars over again, and then again when 2007 comes out. That's my humble opinion. It's the last update ever to 2006 as they mentioned.

If we switch to 1.8, I'll be happy to see Monaco taken off the season calendar. I'd prefer to see circuits like Turkey and San Marino. Isn't Monaco guaranteed to see only a very few of us survive?

V1.52 (Simulator Update)

V1.7 (Fan Favorite Update)

Does this mean that v1.7, (fan favorite update), is not considered as simulator anymore? More like arcade?

What do you guys use for telemetry? I've tried installing Motec and some others but find it very confusing. Nothing new seemed to have appeared in the rfactor menus. Ctrl M seems to kick in data acquisition but where is that data and how to look at it???

I need something easy to install and easy to use that doesn't require quitting rFactor to look at the data.

There is a Malaysian fsone server on right now.
I get fsone.hdv mismatch if I use 1.52 or 1.8. blink.gif

Ahhh these updates... rolleyes.gif

Quite a list of "problems" already which we don't seem to experience with 1.52.

I say we stick to the present version for the remainder of this season.

We'll have to switch to 2007 soon anyway.

Feels so different under 1.7...

After the grid, exiting 4th corner in low gear doesn't feel the same at all anymore, very hard to exit without touching the grass or make it right onto that gridding laid onto the grass. Also the chicane feels very different, I can't attack it like I did before but I feel I can dive into it much faster with the new version.

Just takes a while getting used to it I guess.

I really wish someone could help with these two problems I am having?

PROBLEM 1
*STEERING*

I`m sure it`s a setting, not the wheel itself, maybe in Realfeel?

Let`s say I`m in 3rd gear, not going fast at all, when I turn my wheel slightly from right to left many times quickly, I sort of feel a small gap in the center where almost nothing seems to happens. When I look at the metal ring at 12 oclock on the Momo, it seems there is about a 1 cm gap of almost dead movement.
In 7th gear flat out, I can do the same but with my sensitive high settings the car easily goes out of conrol, doesn`t often allow for small corrections.

I`ve tried different car setups from many of you and it still happens, can eliminate blaming the car setup.

MOMO SETTINGS:

-Rates-
steering 100
Throttle 100
brake 60
Clutch 20

Speed Sensitivity 0

-FFB-
Full and at -100%

CONTROLER 1

X axis 100
RX 60
Y 60
RY 10
rest all at 50%

Deadzones all at 0

Realfeel.ini

[General]
RealFeelIsOn=True
ConsoleEnabled=False
ConsoleRepeatDelay=0.100000
SpeechEnabled=True
KeyRepeatDelay=0.100000
SteerForceInputMax=11500.000000
MinSpeed=10.000000
[Season 2006]
MaxForceAtSteeringRack=2500.000000
SteeringDamper=10500.000000
FFBMixerRealFeelPercent=100.000000
SmoothingLevel=4

MOMO WHEEL WINDOWS PROPERTIES

Combined - signal axis, unchecked

ENABLE FFB checked

Effects 110
Spring 0
Damper 0

Centering Spring -unchecked-

PROBLEM 2

*FFB DISAPPEARING*

I`ll sometimes leave the garage and all FFB is gone and I think it sometimes happens while in slow first corner area of Nurburg...I even was suprised by this NO FFB in one test race yesterday.., Pop up on grid with no FFB at all.

Can this be Momo and Realfeel.ini settings having a conflict?

Thank you.

Penzman, do have ur steering centering box checked but leave the amount to 0%.

About ur FFB coming and going as it please, u can quickly unplug and replug ur usb cable at the back of the wheel and hit 'F' to refresh force feedback.
Centering Spring checkbox now unchecked.
Same same.

What fun it was last night!

Really improved my time and had great fun chasing and being chased by xxTheBESTxx for many many laps. Good practice to follow up close and brake simultaneously with car in front, overtaking and fighting for the spot. One crashed or spun, we wait for each other or catch up and started again. This is essential to hold your ground in a race and stress out the driver in front. I find more and more when I catch up to someone, they try and push more, eventually spin for pushing too much and you gain a position. smile.gif
Finally made a 1:30 but feel I don't need to push any more to last a whole race, too close to the edge at all times. xxBestxx has improved A LOT but needs to avoid contacts a bit more, we'll team up again tomorrow and do the same.

I think the setup I have now will not change until the race day.

A few tips I'd like to share that have helped me improve.
Some of you may have already done this.

Hope this can help.

A tip for Momo users.

All 6 buttons on my wheel are already in use and I wanted to assign INCREASE BOOST / DECREASE BOOST.

I realized last night I can use the vertical gear shifter, brows.gif
shift up/increase boost
shift down/decrease boost

WHEEL SETTINGS

Finally fixed my wheel settings the way I want it.
I've deleted all the other settings that were in that folder so that when the game loads, it automatically loads my wheel settings by default as it is the only wheel setting file left in that folder.

Another tip, I find I drive much better the closer my monitor is to my wheel, 30 cm.

Tip for personal practice with AI.

-Never use INVULNERABILITY, you'll avoid taking risks and decrease spins and crashes.
-Never press ESC after a crash, try to make it to the pit as quick as you can with the damage you have and practice pit entry with SPEED LIMITER. Then you can press ESC once you've stopped for the pit crew.

SEAT POSITION

I used a chair with no wheels, added 4 rubber caps at the end of each leg, now the chair never moves. Padded with 2 cushions for my back and butt. Made marks on the floor so that I can find the same position every time.

I tape my pedals down to the floor, they never move.

I hate the angle of the Momo pedals, they sort of force you to sit up straight. I try to pull my chair back as much as possible so that my legs are extended and arms slightly bent, you end up sort of sitting more like an F1 driver, leaning back a bit. I find that with my legs extended I have more control over the throttle, eliminating some weight from the leg and foot, made a BIG difference. Find the middle where both arms and legs feel comfortable.

FRAMERATE?

Mine is high enough that I run everything on FULL.
You get more depth perception from trackside objects, etc.
There again, find the limit your PC can handle.

SOUND

I like it loud but the high treble of the engine sort of hurts, so, I went into windows play control properties, play control slider, (first on the left )/click ADVANCED, turn the bass all the way up and treble at 25%. You get more bass ,engine sounds nicer (to me anyway) and doesn't hurt yer ears.

Faster Loading Game

Go to your Main Rfactor folder and rename the folder MovieFiles to xMovieFilesx (I use the x, allows me to remember I made the change and keep old file in same folder). This gets rid of some of the movies when you load up rFactor, especially that FS One song that sounds like a funeral. biggrin.gif

All right, there's no wheel to watch the race from above at the Nurburgring.

Last two test races, I did not complete a single lap as my car was badly damaged at the first corner, both times.

This post is not intended to point fingers at anyone. It's nice that we practice flying laps, chasing etc, but we only experience the stress of a start with rare test races and even rarer races, something we should really work on. It may diminish the number of accidents and make races more interesting with more drivers, less frustrating.

I believe we are all pushing too much (with cold tires too) on the very first lap when there are 44 more laps to come to do business.

Can we practice starts in the evenings?
We can let it go a lap or two to see how we spread out.
Then we can look at the replays together, see what goes on and then start again, over and over. No need to qualify, doesn't really matter where we are on the grid, simply advance to next session.

For those of us who have recently discovered the advantages of power increase/decrease, here's a little educational humor related to the usage of BOOST or RPM INCREASE and it's even more damaging disadvantages.

I didn't use boost, cos no more button to assign to my momo for the boost
I tried offline practice, but didn't feel any different.
*
Here is my Momo button setup. I use all 6 buttons + stickshift for BOOST.

RED BUTTONS

L-1 Launch Control
L-2 Neutral
L-3 Reverse

R-1 Speed Limiter
R-2 LCD Mode
R-3 Request Pit

Vertical Stick Shift UP = Increase Boost
Vertical Stick Shift Down = Decrease Boost.

once i check the online checkbox, the relay program just vanished..

I installed it and got it working in a few minutes only.
If the program disappears, just reopen it with the icon on your desktop, it is still running.

Experimented with BOOST set to 3 and can do 1:31 with 11 laps worth of fuel on board. I feel somehow I may have to shorten gears but only a little because if boost is increased to let's say 7, the 7th gear will be too short, causing too much revs and shortening the engine life even more.

Boosters beware!
There are 45 laps to go!

Tonight, I will experiment with different tires see how many laps each can last.

The RELAY software worked fine until now. It seems to shut down a few seconds after I' ve checked the box CONNECT.

Rebooted, same thing.

There is no uninstall option. I'll delete it's folder and try reinstalling it.
