Performance wise. M.2 SATA is the same as SATA. Even if you install it on current motherboards.

That device accepts an M2.2280 Sata SSD, NOT an NVME

A Sata M2 SSD will be cheaper than NVME

If you're going to stick it in a 2.5" slot, better just get a 2.5" Sata SSD, it makes no difference in speed

No you can't connect NVMe SSD to SATA
If your PC/laptop only supports SATA, you can only use SATA, can't use NVMe

That converter only supports M.2 SATA SSD, it doesn't support M.2 NVMe

You need to understand the capabilities of your motherboard

If it only has a SATA controller, it cannot run NVME

If it has a PCIe 3.0 NVME / SATA controller, you can run both

You have to look for the one that supports M.2 PCIE. The one you linked doesn't.

The slot (key) for NVME is different than NGFF, even if you have PCIe 3.0 NVME, you still can't use the adaptor to connect a NVME to SATA

There is no converter from NVMe to SATA. Full stop.

The m.2 connector (for the SSD) has 2 possible protocols, SATA or NVMe, defined by the B or M key. Only the m.2 SATA protocol SSD can be converted to the cabled SATA interface. The m.2 NVMe protocol SSD won't be able to be plugged into the slot, as the key will be different.

You may have luck if you can find a PCIexpress interface card that fits a NVMe m.2 SSD, but it depends on your mainboard if it can boot from the PCIe card.

It won't work. NVMe SSD will not work on SATA.
No matter what converter you use, it will not work. Never. Period. Stop asking

M.2 also available in SATA. This converter cannot use NVME. I have the same product too for my ThinkPad.

M.2 SATA = SATA drive only
M.2 NVMe = NVMe drive only
M.2 NVMe + SATA = NVMe or SATA drive

Reason : The other end of wiring is simply different.
SATA drive needs to connect to SATA controller.
NVMe drive needs to connect to PCI-E host (processor/chipset/switch).

Why M.2 NVMe + SATA works on both? Part of the connector goes to PCI-E host and another part goes to SATA controller.

Nope, because the case doesn't provide PCI-E wires for NVMe to work. (For that, you need U.2 case instead)
Currently way of working :
Host (Processor/Chipset/Switch) --(PCI-E)--> NVMe SSD
SATA Controller (Processor/Chipset) --(SATA)--> SATA drives
Host (Processor/Chipset/Switch) --(PCI-E) --> SATA Controller (Dedicated) --(SATA)--> SATA drives

NVME won't even fit inside the converter. Pins are different.

There is also USB 3.0/3.1 to M.2 PCIE too.

The SSD will run burning hot and data lost might happen due to insufficient power from USB

wait whats the differnce between u.2 and those normal to sata?

There are 2 types.
USB -> PCI-E controller, then connect to NVMe SSD
USB -> SATA controller, then connect to SATA SSD

U.2 contains wiring for PCI-E, so the other end of U.2 will go to PCI-E, not SATA controller.

You have to understand the one physical connector doesn't necessary work in 1 way. There can be different signals.
