I'm not getting my FULL 30Mbps either with my Maxis Home Fibre. Only getting about 27-28Mbps maximum.
Funny thing that this doesn't happen with TM's own Unifi plans which they intentionally do it to stifle competition with their monopoly practices. If you subscribe to their Unifi plans, they'll always cap their own fibre modems(ONTs) at higher speed than the plan you subscribed to giving you the extra space to compensate the TCP overheads.
The problem is with TM, they intentionally capped their fibre modems(ONTs) exactly as what their retail ISP's plan causing the TCP overheads to make your line SLOWER than your subscribed speed.
They implemented a very inefficient method of double level throttling on its users unlike Time and TNB Allo's network where users are only capped via the account they use.
The throttling control for instance:
TM HSBB Wholesale with competing ISP:
TM's own fibre modem(ONT) is throttled by software by TM + retail ISP's user account(2nd level speed restriction)
This increases inefficiency and bandwidth utilization greatly where it's needed. The result, increased CPU utilization of routers to process packets, increased latency due to added processing needed and it indirectly contributes towards global warming for energy wastage. Just like implementing extra MiTM DPI equipment.
If your modem is wrongly capped at say 100Mbps, while your subscribed user account is 1Gbps you still WON'T be getting what you paid for. There are times when suddenly the user cannot get the speed they subscribed but the ISP under TM wholesale network says nothing wrong is with their account. That is when they need to check with TM if their modems have been messed with.
Allo Technology and Time Fibre:
All user lines/ports have equal maximum attainable speeds. Users are just throttled by their accounts which limits the speed that they're subscribed to. If the router at your house is assigned a 1Gbps account, you get 1Gbps speed. If you're assigned to a 50Mbps account, you get only upto 50MBps speed. That is why you'll always get some extra leaked speed when conducting speed tests and this impresses the customers making them happy since they are shown that they "always" get a little more than they subscribed to.
Are you paid to write bullshit about TM?Funny thing that this doesn't happen with TM's own Unifi plans which they intentionally do it to stifle competition with their monopoly practices. If you subscribe to their Unifi plans, they'll always cap their own fibre modems(ONTs) at higher speed than the plan you subscribed to giving you the extra space to compensate the TCP overheads.
