Don’t think we will get 5G so soon, especially those who not live in city, so even if you have 5G phone but cannot use, no point buying. But if you can afford 5G phone, why not?

These days not about buying 5G phone but what the chipset capable. Eventually it will support 5G so why rush 5G that you cannot use.

No use rushing.

My first 4G phone was the Nokia Lumia 920. I paid RM 1.8K for it. It was great then but after several months, the OS started showing it's limitations. Sold it for RM 500 about a year later.

So, better to wait. No point getting a 5G phone unless your current phone is already broken or in need of an upgrade.

No use showing off a new gadget anyway. Someone out there will always beat u to this race.

We are seeing 5G now, but the availability is just downright lame.

Based on the lame "JENDELA" plan, I doubt we will see any proper deployment till late 2022?

Still, I prefer expansion of fibre infrastructure with symmetrical Gigabit speeds. But just look at the current situation, I doubt TM gives a shit. Sampah ministers aren't expediting the situation either.

5G technology expected to create 39,000 jobs in Malaysia
The deployment of 5G would contribute up to RM12.7 billion between 2021 and 2025 to the Malaysia's economy.

5G delay a potential positive for telcos, say analysts
THE delay in rolling out 5G could be a positive for the telco industry, as analysts believe it is uncertain if it will enhance earnings for telcos.

“Delays would mean the deferment of 5G capital expenditure, at least until clarity is obtained on the spectrum process, so it is a positive in that respect,” said RHB Investment Bank analyst Jeffrey Tan.

the industry is already facing challenges in monetising data on 4G due to stiff data price competition.

“Telcos are not hard-up to commercialise 5G. As it is, initial 5G rollouts are likely to be confined to enterprise use cases,” Tan told FocusM.

Another local analyst opines that it remains uncertain whether 5G will enhance earnings for telcos.

“It will likely be given free like 4G. The most they could do is to cap speeds, and require consumers to pay higher prices to use higher speeds,” said the analyst, adding that more information is needed to assess just how the delay in 5G would affect the industry, as even the telcos cannot give any guidance on the matter.

Not yet. If want to buy new phone just go for 4G and use it for the next 2 to 3 years. After few years then 5G should be at least around major cities.

The 5G is just show off only, for mengkuda as if they are progressing, just like the kereta terbang thing

We know those things demographic are for T20, the M40 and B40 are trickled down eventually

Better focus on 4G first, all walks of life can enjoy

What's the point of having 5G networks if the speed is capped in 10mbps. The most advanced 4G+ can do that.

I've mentioned this before. Telcos already give option.

- Unlimited data , capped speed, affordable pricing = Fair for others.
- Non capped speed, limited data quota, pay for per GB. = Also fair.

You want speed you pay more for the non capped speed.
If assuming there is no cap for unlimited data, then abusers will take advantage and will affect other users.. May affect the abuser.also.

Then complain say Slow etc, thinking he own the entire tower
What more with 5G speed.

So its fair. Pay peanuts get peanuts. Pay gold get premium.

Yup. You get what you pay.

For me I don't really see the point to use/get 5G (for now) if you prefer Unlimited data with capped speed.

Better wait to see something like lower budget realmes/iphone se 5g and go to buy...

But then, your 5g speed will drop due to the amount of users...

Then back to square one, telco dont want upgrade equipment to solve congestion, user complain and nothing happened

they want people to buy data..
so, basic internet I believe still at 64kbps..
for unlimited data, maybe they can offer 10mbps at certain price if their capital already cover back..

Jendela: Malaysia’s 4G now covers 97pc of populated areas, 5G at 54.7pc

Malaysia’s 4G network now covers 96.92 per cent of populated areas, which is slightly more than its initial target of 96.9 per cent population coverage.

Meanwhile, the number of fibre-passed premises has hit 7.74 million which is above the target of covering 7.5 million premises by the end of 2022.

In terms of download performance, it is reported that Malaysia’s average mobile broadband speed is now at 116.03Mbps, exceeding its initial target of 35Mbps.

When it comes to 5G coverage, there are 4,363 5G sites as of February 2023 which provides coverage in 54.7 per cent of populated areas.

As mentioned previously, the Malaysian government aims to expedite the 5G rollout to achieve 80 per cent 5G population coverage by the end of 2023, which is one year ahead of Digital Nasional Berhad’s schedule.
