That's a steep increase of 20-30%. Probably cause a drop-off in players. But secondary market prices for cards might go up?

Wonder if it will impact tournament play or if Wizards will subsidise PTQ/GPT events.

I heard somewhere, that with the commencement of Lorwyn, there are no more 3-set expansions per year.

This is now replaced with two 2-set expansions per year (which means 4 sets per year).

Is this true? And how does this affect Standard?

As it stands, Standard is Core Set plus last 2 expansions (e.g. Xth + Lorwyn + Time Spiral), so it's usually about 1-2 years back.

If it remains the same policy, does this mean Standard will now effectively change every single year?

Check out the article in today's The Star - they cited Michael Toh and he mentioned the 2 2-set blocks per year. But he didn't say anything about Standard.

Hopefully, Standard doesn't change again in 2 sets time!

When Lorwyn rotates in, Ravnica rotates out.

Which means when [New block after Lorwyn] rotates in, Something Else will rotate out?

However, from an economic perspective, we cannot (justifiably) suggest that RM1 every 2 years since 2000 is preferable to RM13 now.

Assume for simplicity sake, that:
2001: X packs consumed RM10
2002: X packs consumed RM10
2003: X packs consumed RM11
2004: X packs consumed RM11
2005: X packs consumed RM12
2006: X packs consumed RM12
2007: X packs consumed RM13
and interest rate between 2001 and 2007 is constant r

You would have saved X*(1+r)^4 + X*(1+r)^3 + 2X*(1+r)^2+2X*(1+r) by having the entire increase in 2007, assuming that X and r is non-zero.

So, while we complain about the shock, we should be thankful that we have RM13 now, as opposed to RM1 every 2 years previously (if those are the 2 options we are comparing against).

From an economic perspective, the appropriate comparison is the RM13*X you are spending now against other opportunities (i.e. the opportunity cost of the money you are spending on this hobby relative to what you could spend elsewhere e.g. Adrian's visits to the massage parlour smile.gif or Aniki's Armada home biggrin.gif )

Even Armada hasn't gone up by 30%. Think RM188 has been around for at least 3-4 years!

How did they lose the distributorship? Thought they were doing a good job? They actually promoted Magic quite a bit, right, with their tourney centre.

Usually Haakon wouldn't be so much, even I daresay a RM1-RM2 card last time...

but because of Lorwyn, because it's Coldsnap (and thus harder to find), suddenly the price has shot up. It's really difficult to find now... For this card, really, you have to go to the shops to find out. Think Manawerx may have in stock. Wouldn't be surprised if they are now selling in the RM8 to RM12 range.

Very difficult to find.

Keep seeing this... Sulfur Elemental is not a good anti white-weenie card smile.gif It wasn't a good anti white-weenie card during Time Spiral Block Constructed, and it still won't be smile.gif

Last week, there were a few kithkin+anthem decks, and they beat all the sulfur elemental decks. Cos 1 Sulfur is hopeless. and 2 Sulfur is hopeless, when 1 Anthem is in play...

Some more got first strike, lifelink kithkin. With sulfur elemental, these first strike, lifelink kithkin become even better!

What's good is Damnation, Wrath of God, Teferi's Moat, etc. against these kithkin + anthem decks.

How many release parties are going on this weekend? Does anyone know if there are Friday release parties?

Manawerx & CC DJ - Saturday afternoon release party
CC Subang - Sunday morning release party

What about Summit USJ (shop still in operation?) and Central? Will they be holding release parties too?
