Invested 500 units in Maybank last week at 7.40, 7.35, 7.32 and 7.30 and the price keeps dropping. Price closed at 7.21 trying to test the previous low. My opinion was that it is a good time to continue averaging down given the grace period of loan repayment is ending soon? Or prove me wrong anyone.

QUOTE(reddevil @ Sep 20 2020, 05:13 PM) 5%+ and the dividends are rising every year as their profits grow. That is why the company's stock has hit a fresh high despite the pandemic.Perhaps it's not obvious to some people here, but successful dividend investing relies on identifying companies with growing profits which in turn feeds into dividends. Companies with falling profits may have high dividend yield but these are value traps. And just to chip into the Maybank debate, the main reason why Maybank has gone nowhere over the last decade is because their dividends have been essentially flat over the years. I'm looking for this kind of stocks as well. The pandemic has made some really good discounts. I'm eyeing a few REITs and one of my watchlist favourites, Tenaga, has fallen quite a bit in SP. I feel like I wanna move in and take before it rises next year.
I like their 30% - 60% dividend policy. |

Since dividend is depend on company performance and cash flow. To be safe, most of the blue chip stocks does affected due to covid so dividend being cut.
If focus on tech and health care, it may give small amount since the company still need the fund to R&D, so dividend collector might not invest heavily in these industry. But some they perform well during the pandemic so give some but we not sure next year or when the covid starts to recover. I guess to be safe invest relatively large portion in blue chip and small portion in tech or health care stocks. Do not all in and try goreng stock. |

My simple understanding of choosing types dividend stock
1. If you intent to solely invest in order to get back your payout consistently , choose REITS. it is your best friend against inflation risk and most suitable source of passive income 2. If you intent to invest with hope of getting substantial capital gains choose industry with good history dividend record. imho, plastic and paper packaging do gives out healthy dividend payout 3. If you intent to invest in hoping for capital gain in order to pay a handsome dividend in future choose tech why bank is no in the list for now? due to current economic situation |

QUOTE(rocketm @ Oct 5 2020, 01:06 PM) Is it because capital gain is faster than dividend and the current economy situation making dividend is not a popular choice? ermm.. like wat pewufod mentioned just now, sometimes, even if the company does provide shareholder the constant flow of dividend, you cant even cover your capital loss n cost of inflation over the time la.from my perspective, i feel like thr is too many uncertainty if you choose to hold the stock for more than 10 years just for the dividend gain. who know the company turns uncompetitive and become small market player from market leader. ( like nokia?) just my 2cents every1 hav his own strategy la.. |

QUOTE(KleenGuy @ Oct 5 2020, 02:51 PM) you have to do your due diligent my friend as one size does not fit allmy criteria would be picking only 3 tech counters - cheapest in terms of PEG ratio (UWC, MI, FRONTKEN)??? - biggest (Inari, MPI, GLOBE)??? - loudest gossip in the market (UWC, MI, VITROX)??? i think nowadays its abit overpriced, if still interested better do dollar cost averaging and again, i'm talking about investing, not trading. there is a fine line that differentiate these 2 terms? |
