Here to drop some love for Maybank (that won’t be paying dividend this semi annual hahaha)
Backbone of Malaysia, attractive dividend yield of 6% if I l’m not mistaken. However future growth seems pretty gloomy especially when digital banks are popping up 1 by 1 REITs in general are the bread and butter dividend stocks in Malaysia but curious to see what others prefer Definitely a great thread to stick around for dividend lovers |

You purchase Maybank for its dividend yields and for a time frame as far back as 2013, how would rate investing in Maybank for its dividends? You would assume the investor would have made big profit right? 7 years plus of dividends wo.... Sure untung one la Yes? Now run and test it based on 2 scenarios assumptions... 1. One was able to invest in Maybank at the cheapest possible price for that year.... 2. One was unlucky. Purchased at the highest price of the year. Wanna guess the result? |

I've been a long term dividend investor.. it's been a very rewarding journey but its not very popular in Malaysia since people prefer making a quick buck.

QUOTE(Boon3 @ Sep 19 2020, 04:05 PM) Maybank? Don't get me wrong, at no point did I ever said Maybank is the best dividend stock, in fact I believe there are a lot more growing dividend stocks that are better worth your money.A good exercise is to run some back day testing. 1.assume.. say back in 2013. Looking back historical data does prove your point, however those are mainly attributable to unavoidable events (hyflux default etc.) Having said that, historical performance does not 100% depict the company's future performance. It is true, Maybank is a lagging bank supported by the Gov, but that also gives it a special spot in Malaysia as it is heavily supported by institutions. Ideally, the best dividend stock, in my opinion, have at least some kind of growth in their capital value, while paying out healthy dividends to its shareholder. You are however, entitled to your opinion. Though I'm sure there's a whole thread of Maybank shareholders over there for such discussion |

Well.. here is my honest opinion. But the truth is, I had tested the data and even if I was able to magically choose the lowest price possible and purchase Maybank and invest for its dividends... the yield or return is miserable. And if I am not lucky and I buy at the highest price instead of the lowest price of the year, I could even lose money despite getting the dividends. This is a point I want to make this point. Yeah... but hyflux was just a one off event. So what if one invest for its dividends and another hyflux event happen in the future? And the problem with dedicated threads.. lol.. most just do not want to hear the negatives... Negatives are risks. Stock market is all about managing the risk. Should one just buy any stock for its dividends and pretend that there is no risk involved? And that there is no risk in dividend investing? FPI not a bad company. Dividend stock with reasonable good free cash flow.

QUOTE(Boon3 @ Sep 19 2020, 05:10 PM) Well.. here is my honest opinion. You definitely have a strong point there, and I fully agree with you that one shouldn’t be blinded by what’s presented by the company.Yup. It was a bad post from me. Guilty as hell. In essence, the underlying business model is more important than ever - ability to stay profitable while being relevant as time progresses. Cheers |

So how do we define a "good" dividend stock?

Hey guys, got a question here regarding dividend stock.
For example this company. I need to buy before before 28/9 (example 27/9) and I can sell after 29/9 (example 30/9)? I will get the full special dividend of 10cent? Meaning that for 200K I will get around 27k dividend (price around RM0.72). Am I right? or is there any special catch? I'm skeptical its gonna be this easy. Appreciate if anyone can enlighten me. Thank you in advance. |

QUOTE(reddevil @ Sep 18 2020, 10:54 PM) Hi everyone, Interesting. In this current situation, I think I would go for Bank stocks. Can we start a thread to discuss Dividend Stock? Any good recommendation aside reits? Currently, am looking at SCIENTX (4731)....... Earning surely would come back and people who borrowed money will have to pay interest no matter what unless they bankrupt. That's the only big risk. |
