Hey guys... I have a RM6k budget, what 15" laptop should I go for? Dell or some other brand?

Was shopping around, I narrowed down to these two computers that gives me the feel good factor

My requirement would be, I need something that's well built and sturdy, like magnesium casing.. mainly using it for light usage, but I enjoy having a great screen for movies, colour quality is important, speakers clarity like a macbook pro would be sweet too, I've yet to come across such windows laptop with a good speaker though

Note: The laptop will just be sitting on a table, I'll perhaps disable the battery driver, in hope that no current would pass through the battery and reducing risk of "over-charging" battery damage.

So here are the 2 laptops I narrowed to:

1. XPS 15 (2 years old model)
I'm kinda inclined to this model because of the 4k resolution screen,
I saw ECT online only selling this for RM4,599, compared to this shop at RM5,499. Is ECT Online okay? should i be wary of anything?
Is this XPS 15 with the webcam at the bottom?

2. This Inspiron 15 7000 laptop is quite well built, but the one that's one spec lower (inspiron 15 5000) only cost RM3999 on dell website, and it kinda feel the same built quality wise! Should I perhaps buy the 3.7k one and get it hooked up to a RM1k QHD monitor?

probably. you dont really need performance. just need good screen, good speaker, and "feel good factor"

sounds like a macbook to me. im not familiar with macbook product line and pricing, but surely macbook air cost less than 6k

Hey guys

For the Warranty on Dell, since I don't need international warranty, I can perhaps settle down for this 4 years In Home Hardware Service right?

Instead of the 2 years premium and onsite service

I just bought a dell last week, and this is my experience

To buy the laptop, I have to
1) go-to their website, check their spec
2) their warranty term are all over the place without clear description. Need to google 10-20 sites to understand the options i am buying such as In-Home Service, Premium Support.
3) when place order, found out cannot use credit card for payment.
4) have to bank transfer, and make sure it's IGB. Cannot instant transfer.
5) transfer instruction on website doesn't match (it mentioned Telegraphic transfer), need to call their sales to clarify.
6) sales need 10 mins to pick up
7) after transfer need to print the slip, and email them.
8) no acknowledgement of email. Need to call them and so hard to reach their support.
9) after transfer made 5 days, they acknowledge the payment and give me order number. Dell need to wait until the IGB transfer reach them and verified by their finance.
10) now need to wait another 3 weeks for the unit to be assembled in factory and delivery

Update on my purchase

user posted image

1) For order placed on 29 Oct, I finally received it on 17 Nov. Below my Expectation after purchasing so many things on Shopee / Lazada. We are already in 2020, not 2010
2) Laptop Quality - build & screen OK
Sound quality - Worst laptop speaker. The speaker sound will distort / sound broken when playing music with even light bass. Called Customer service to troubleshoot, and found the reason - you have to *PLUG IN THE POWER ADAPTOR* for the laptop to play the sound correctly. Battery power won't be sufficient to power the speaker
If you want to watch youtube / Google Meet / Zoom meeting with battery power, your sound will be broken / distorted / can't hear anything at all.

Called customer service - since i can play the sound properly when plugged in through wire, the speaker is working fine, nothing wrong with it.

Haha just saw this. So have you pick your ideal laptop? tongue.gif

If you haven’t, try explore Acer Swift 5. It has magnesium casing, and the screen is quite close enough. 14”. I just got myself one last month and so far so good. I got it through shopee. Experience is quite pleasant and fast delivery. biggrin.gif
