Anyone added water before? A friend of mine also asked me to add water to extend the battery life. Is this true? Any experience?

I top up my maintenance free battery with battery water every 2 years. The cell caps are hidden under the sticker. Going on 8 years now with the oldest battery.

Then why not buy the non-maintenance free version then? It's cheaper and usually longer lasting than maintenance free batteries.

My maintenance free batteries usually last about 1 year, almost to the dot actually (but usually after warranty), and cannot be revived. The regular batteries, you just top up battery water once in a while (even if you forget, once the battery cannot crank the car due to water level in the battery too low, a water top up will usually be able to start the car d).

Last much longer, and cheaper to boot. I say bye bye to maintenance free batteries except for cars still under warranty.

I did this on my century. Lasted 4 years +.

At 2 years old, expecting battery life to be almost over since people say can Century can last 2 years only, I opened it up to add water. It was half filled.

At 3 years, open again, still full.
At 4 years, still full.

No idea if topping up helped.

Normally maintenence free is black plastic box, how to see water level to fill up. Wet battery usually white transparent easy to see water level

Yes. When you got your new car (used or bran new) with your hard earned money, you will not forget to take care of your car need. Wash weekly. Check battery water level after each washing. Topping it even level dropped by 1mm .After some time you get lazier and lazier and ahhh... maybe later ...or next week it since water level will not drop that much laugh.gif

Last time the MF was significant in price difference. Now the price is not much different, so I just get the MF and not bother checking water lever anymore laugh.gif

These was my observation between both battery types over years of owning cars. I would say no advantage or dis advantage if you choose either one. The maintenance full once if end of life, you can pour out all the water and pour new acid to rejuvenate it and still good probably at least another 6 months.

lithium is not as heavy as wet/mf battery, the box itself is big but inside components are small
but it is considered as DG for shipping

The lithium battery has battery management system in there to manage cell charges.
Its not like connect the power source direct to the cells.

no need just pnp.. i am not using it but i have read Taiwanese company introducing their product. The circuit board is within the battery and there's other important factor like heat exchange (internal and external).

I was talking about charging the battery to alternator. The power needs to be regulated. otherwise no good to lithium battery.

Sounds like the battery has internal circuit to regulate the voltage fluctuations from alternator then.
