What will happen to tourists that comes here then? Have to buy new local phones, as well? And those people that bought cheap recond/2nd hand phones, that are JAP/UK etc sets..

I hope the answer is not 'buy new phones'
*
malaysia GSM & LTE band compatible with eu/uk network.
japan and north america using non standard band with the rest of the world. Band 2, 4, 12, 13, 19 21 aws 29

QUOTE(Skylinestar @ Dec 12 2021, 11:31 AM)
that is the only answer. it has happened during my old mobifon800 days.
*
because mobikom800 using amps. amps to gsm have to buy a new phone
same as art900 to gsm have to buy a new phone too

Why would telcos invest and improve the soon outdated 4G network, when the whole world is moving to 5G?

I can understand the reluctance to improve 4G network, as they would rather use the money to invest in technology that would last 10 years, that is 5G.

4G (Long Term Evolution) is expected to last for at least another decade, and possibly longer with the help of Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), which shares available spectrum between 4G LTE and 5G devices. DSS provides improved coverage for 5G devices and greater longevity for 4G LTE devices.

Seems like 502 158 is (I think) more towards nationwide 2G roaming... I see mix of Celcom/Maxis/Digi frequencies in CellMapper

I also see complains from those three telcos (roaming on 502158)
*
ya roaming to 502 158. But celcom digi maxis 2G is still available.

Just my two-cents. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

I dont know if DNB to be the single wholesale 5G network operator is a good idea,
but I think DNB to be the single wholesale for 2G should be a good idea ...

1. Reduce cost for MNO to maintain 2G network, as we only use 2G network for calling
2. Recall bandwidth hold by multiple telco so that those bandwidth can be use as 4G, MNO can focus on 4G network
3. Nobody will complain DNB monopoly on 5G network
4. IOT / TNB Smart meter can easily get wholesale agreement
*
dont make sense.
/k will said good idea for songlap rclxms.gif

DNB dont have 2G licence
GSM spectrum band 3 and 8 already used by big 4
so DNB paid big 3 to become 2G MVNO
then telco except yes paid DNB for 2G roaming

If 502 158 is for nationwide 2G roaming, then what's 502 159?

I found this in manual searching, it's a 4G signal.

502 159 is DNB 700mhz LTE band 28

probably cost issue, fiber = monthly fee to Unifi
microwave = as long as direct sight to each tower, it can be used, but there will be some interference when raining and also high latency.
*
unifi fiber hsbb network dont connect to telco tower. you can read news what happend when unifi fiber cable cut

Well, 2022 is here and 3G/H+ is still broadcasting despite Celcom declare that it's 3G shutdown completed. In fact H+ can be use.
*
i think big town bandaraya 3G really turn off completely . small town and rural kampung still on until future notice.

basically saying JENDELA is to force telco to upgrade non profit remote location tower with 4G

In my area, Maxis already refarm their 2100Mhz for 4G already, before is 10Mhz for 4G and 5 Mhz for 3G, now 15Mhz for 4G

Digi not yet done the 3G refarm, still only have 10Mhz bandwidth for 2100Mhz, and I also don't understand why Digi also allocate 900/1800Mhz for 2G, they should be same as Maxis, allocate 900Mhz for 2G for calls, 1800, 2100, 2600 are fully for 4G.
*
digi using 2G 1800mhz since mutiara telekom kunan > vincent > telenor long long long time ago.
digi just start using 2G 4G 900mhz just a year or two.
3mhz of 900mhz for 4G and 2 mhz of 900mhz for 2G

yeah, lastly ported out my grandma's number together with my main line.

funny thing is the CS still ask me to switch to 3g or 2g to make calls. dah la told them 2g call quality very sad.

end up they told me based on their system, the tower got no problem at all. active and got user connected to it. so they told me time to change my grandma's phone. laugh.gif

after change telco, voice call and internet call all very clear.

just wondering, if my phone don't have signal at all inside house, but got 2 to 3 bar on 2G and 4G outside my house, will it be useful if i bought 2G booster and get 2G only signal in my house? just need to make call and sms, data can use home internet.

also, i heard that 4G booster have all kind of band number and not all booster will work with particular telco, but 2G usually will have all the band in the booster for all telco.
*
house material blocking mobile signal. change telco that have indoor signal
for mobile data, can used router with external antenna

As shared by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), 80% of the total 253,860 3G carriers have shut down, which leaves 50,486 3G carriers still operational.

This explains why you could still get 3G reception in certain areas
the delay to shut down the remaining 3G sites was due to flood and monsoon season, and the complete shutdown is targeted to be completed by 31st March 2022.

The spectrum utilised for 3G can be repurposed to improve 4G coverage and capacity.

digi / umobile : band 1 2100mhz
