ya, when i use automatic mode, there will be "flash or no flash" problem. If i turn off the flash, most likely vibrate warning will keep appearing. That really irritating me.. If i ignore the warning and go ahead with picture taking, the picture guarantee to be so blur. Sometimes using flash is also not a good way as the pictures will be so shape. Last time i took picture of my gf with flash on and automatic mode, she look so pale and white in the picture! as if i just met a ghost! oh my god... sweat.gif

my fuji f20 doest have IS, i get the the shaking warning all the time, anything >1/4s SS i get 100% sharp pictures. at 1/4s i use the timer can get 100% sharp pic.

you should post a sample blurry pic with exif info.

on a P&S. its good to train ur finger to be more gentle tongue.gif
Else you will shake the whole camera if you press it too hard..

One general question guys,
On an SLR, you can set the focus to infinity.
But how do you do that (focus to infinity) to a digicam? Do you press the shutter from ready->snap in a single motion?
as in skip step to AF?
*
that won't mean it's set to infinity... u can however manual focus to infinity... not sure if that's available on all digicams, but i remember my Sony H5 (prosumer) doing that

Yeah, totally agree with you that even with an ISO of 800, the image looks not as grainy one might expect. After compression maybe or Noise Ninja?

no PP or NR, only resize.
see this comparison at iso800:

fuji f20/30/31fd, the only PnS that can compete head to head with dslr at high iso.

I'm only concerned with taking a moving horse pic with the f31.... without flash. Do you reckon it would still be of the same quality?

yes... bump up the ISO, and that should help you freeze motion by having a faster shutter speed.

Hi uhlaw,

if you understand the concept of hyperfocal distance, and if you are able to manually set the focus point (NOT focal length) on your camera, you may be able to get sharp pictures in certain settings (eg. shots taken at the widest lens angle) even without any autofocus.

It's the concept behind those 'focus-free' cheap compact or disposable film cameras, and nearly all handphone cameras.
