Got an i5 model last week. What brand of RAM did you buy and are they playing nice with the iMac? I am waiting for my Crucial RAM to be delivered via Lazada.

My late 2012 iMac crapped out during MCO and I have been working on my laptop ever since then. Have been itching for a bigger screen and took the plunge as soon as the new models were announced. Coming from a 21.5" screen, the 27" is amazing. The 5K display is wonderful and makes a huge difference. No more Fusion drive and the SSD speed is an impressive upgrade for me. The speakers sound more premium and hefty. I am happy with my purchase.

The memory upgrade is working well with the iMac?

Yes, I did some research on line and doing 8/8/4/4 or 4/4/8/8 will give the maximum 2666 MHz. I plan to keep using the default 4/4 RAMs that came with the machine as well.

Call me old fashion but I like the iMac design, bezel and all. As someone who owned a 2007 model I appreciate the beauty of the slimmer chasis and even embrace the chin with the apple logo.

As a public service, I would like to point to an issue with the new iMac 27" desktops. Yes, you can upgrade the RAM yourself instead of paying Apple ridiculous sums of money but there is a problem. Unlike the 2019 models, you must only use same size RAMs and preferably of the same brand for memory. Mixing the default RAMs with 3rd party units will cause performance to drop (as measured using Geekbench). Thats how its looking like at this time. I wish that Apple will acknowledge this and maybe do something about it. Still not clear if its is a hardware or software issue. Its such a waste of the default RAMs. Was hoping to get a total of 24G of RAMs with 8x2 plus 4x2. But no such luck.

Please do tell about the specs that you modified. So far I have added new 3rd party RAMs to my base model. Since mine was factory default specs, it came after 3 days of ordering it.

A few posts earlier on I mentioned that I have added new RAMs to my iMac. I recently bought another 2 sticks of Crucial memory (8G x 2) from a seller in Shopee. I received them yesterday and stuck them into the computer. They work fine but when I looked at the specs, it states "Manufacterer : 0598 and Part Number : Unknown". Could they be fakes?
