Hmm.. wouldn't know about codec, but there was once a talk about the possibility of DVD playback.

Yep, TV is connected to an amp so decent sound comes out. Quality still intact.

I've tried Media Center X for Wii, it's good, but can only playback up to 10-15 minutes(roughly) before locking up sad.gif FLV files only, so damn low quality, anime cannot see subtitles(very faint).. sweat.gif

So here's hoping for better updates, this update is still kinda kewl, can't wait to check out the digital clock. MAN, a clock! Why didn't Ninty put that in the first place?(DS main menu has clock too)

Ya hor... forgot about the clock... I was wondering too y isn't there a clock in the 1st place.. I always wanted 2 look at the menu for time... but always only got the date no time at all... LOL

1 more thing, y din't they put wat time we played the games in the msgs? only time spent and total time spent on the games.

EDIT: y not connect ur wii directly to the amp, so nonit to keep TV on all the time when playing.

Dunno leh, not that fully-fledged out yet with their features. With this new update, didn't I read they totally removed those messages?

Meh, didn't make much difference to me now, as I'm playing lotsa GCN games, and they don't record the time. 5 hours of GCN playtime, message says 1 hour spend on Photo Channel(for mp3) and nothing else.

As for Wii direct to AMP, lazy to split cable, somemore quite far apart the amp and Wii.

Oh icic... catching up on NGC games, too bad I dun hav a GC controller in my hands yet.. cry.gif

and the time spent msg thingie they change is, to another colour(white), so can differenciate from the msgs(yellow). and that the time spent msgs dun show up in the calendar, only those received or from games are shown.

hmm.gif then I guess u split the cables when u get ur new LCD TV la, its not good to leave LCD, burn away backlight life.

1. You'll also need Gamecube Memory Card cry.gif Had to go hunting for one, and play Sunshine without saving, MANA BOLEH?!

2. Oh, it means they won't display those little mails on calender anymore(if it's time spend message). I get it now.

3. Really? Sounds like plasma to me shocking.gif After you telling me that, feel like sticking to CRT ph34r.gif

Oh.. all TVs have their life expentency... but CRT is way too long to mention, so deemed virtually unlimited, plasma and LCD have their time, depending on brand of the panel/backlight and technology.

Difference with plasma and LCD, is that plasmas will get a burn in if anything on the screen stays static for a long time. LCD wont.

Slot LED? You mean the place where we put in the disc actually lights up? What else is in the new update? I dun have wifi router so how do I do this (instead of bringing my wii to the seller for update)? If hv to bring to shop then I think I'll survive until end of this month laa without updates.

Man, this update is strange. First of, I never completed the download.

At first try, 20%, disconnected, return to Wii main menu. Try downloading again, this time 50%.. still cannot go..

Go back into system settings, version says 3.0U ph34r.gif

Oh well, hope I didn't brick my Wii.

According to the comments there, they do work. But not for the internet channel, which would be great.

Looks like sending messages to friends won't be as short as 10 characters now.

he could also try and get online and update the firmware from there. im not sure if you could do it while not being a ble to go to the settings page - never updated firmware online b4

the mod should ban him. this is a clear breach of rules

Quoted from Wikipedia: Nintendo Wii

A Nintendo spokesperson has announced that the company plans to release a version of the console with DVD-Video playback capabilities in 2007.[40] Even though software will be used to enable DVD-Video functionality, it "requires more than a firmware upgrade" and cannot therefore be implemented through the WiiConnect24 network.

I don't think the mod should ban anyone because he/she mods his/her Wii to play legit or illegal copy of GC/Wii games. We couldn't care less if they bricked their own Wii.

What we do care for is this forum.

See... forums are made of bits and bytes that need a persistent store. And the internet aren't a mesh of literal clouds that form by itself. This forum needs to be hosted on physical hardware such that we could spam to our hearts content. And to do that you need cash.

Now where do we get this cash to host the forum. It certainly didn't come from donation. It came from ads space posted everywhere on the forum and the main site. One prime example is the Intel ad smack right next to the lowyat.net's logo. So do you really think any reputable company would sink money on ads at this forum if it's filled with discussion on mod chips even though it's marginally legit?

Seriously, rules are in place for a reason. Please adhere.

<P.S. This is not in response to any single poster. It applies to all threads and posters, a reminder to post responsibly.>

You have something againsts me?

Seriously I know the rules and regulations in an online board discussion.

Did I mention that I purchased or playing any illegal games?

The only thing I remember posting was whether there was any games which has a 3.0j update.

Are you assuming something?

Wow wow wow...you sure do jump into conclusions doncha.

What makes you think I utilized the modchip to play illegal games?

Why don't you assume I utilize the modchip to play DIFFERENT REGION GAMES?

No fighting peeps nod.gif

3.0J update will most likely be in every new game after it's firmware release. And mostly likely in every Nintendo title.

Some people say Strikers has the latest firmware, but actually strikers was released before the 3.0 firmware was launched, so it's still 2.0. (IINM)

I don't understand why we help users who non-chalantly describe their use of pirated goods as if it's equal to the original product. Misinform them in the hope that they waste their money!

Well, I can't confirm you about that, but I do know that games w/ firmwares do prompt you to install the firmware after inserting the disc, according to what I read la.

No firmware, cannot play(?). Firmware, good, but Freeloader cannot use already tongue.gif

Err actually my point is whether there are games that carries the firmware update...so next time I can avoid those games which have a firmware update.

I do not want to end up buying a game which carries a firmware update of a different region for example. That way it'll brick it again.

And thanks for the partial solution.

if u mod your wii , i think now they comes with a thing that enable to u to revert back to your old firmware in case your wii is semi bricked after update .

he could also try and get online and update the firmware from there. im not sure if you could do it while not being a ble to go to the settings page - never updated firmware online b4

*btw, that guy modded his wii (which sounds innocent enough) and plays pirated games (mario strikers US)

the mod should ban him. this is a clear breach of rules
Quoted from Wikipedia: Nintendo Wii

A Nintendo spokesperson has announced that the company plans to release a version of the console with DVD-Video playback capabilities in 2007.[40] Even though software will be used to enable DVD-Video functionality, it "requires more than a firmware upgrade" and cannot therefore be implemented through the WiiConnect24 network.

sorry if this is a old news ..

I juz got a msg from ninty, saying there's a new update addressing the bug for the LAN adapters. Apparently, the last update rendered them unusable. Update away guys~!

Note: not sure if its for all regions of Wiis

It is, but for the people who do not(or do not want) own wireless routers, they can opt. for the LAN adapter.

sorry for bringing this up....

i've just updated my wii to 3.0U....everything is ok....

my question is, what are these updates?? from the previous posts i read, some games cant be played if it's not updated?

i.e. if game A needs to be played with verion 3.0u, a firmware version of 2.2u can't be played?

right now i have played only call of duty and wii sport....everything seems to be ok...

These updates add neew features, bug fixes etc for your Wii...

like after update to 3.0 u can use a USB keyboard to type your Memos, and now there's a digital clock at your channel screen, and the drive blue light turns on or something when u slot in a disc...

Really? Mine only blinked blue whenever there's online activity(receiving messages or the like). Only with the v3 patch did it blink when inserting discs.

Yes i tried an USB keyboard. Its nothing special just one that i happen to have lying around (OK OK its meant for Frets On Fire on the laptop) and it works just like that.

Don't know if it requires specific keyboard or not, mind is kinda brandless...
