as i said, my son english is pretty good now. bm abit bad.

I started out in SRJK Lai Meng when Zouk didn’t exist and Saloma was still there. Can say that 1/4 the class including myself were melayu.

Moved on to Chung Kwok because my auntie was on the PIBG. But I think the major culture shock part is fundraising as these schools pour a lot of their own money into facilities for the kids.

So sure lah mesti got jogathon fund raising and xyz fund raising. It’s a big deal in these schools and they want the best.

But even the dumbest among us would usually run rings around our SRK counterparts when it came to math and science, it’s a huge advantage I often take for granted.

If you speak English at home you’ll be fine. Chinese schools don’t put an emphasis on it but more affluent Chinese schools have a lot of kids from an English speaking background as well, thus your kid will learn it fine. Kampung SRJK is different story, but bandar one is fine.

Non Chinese here who studied in SRJK c.

Your son will be fine. It might be hard at first but he will eventually get used to it.

Basic as in learning mandarin in kindergarten? Not really.

I transferred from SRK to SRJK on April during my standard 1 without any knowledge in mandarin and some broken cantonese lol.

The difference from SRK to SRJK is huuuuuge. I go from no homework and still score straight A in SRK to wtf am I doing in SRJK. Eventually I cheat in most of my exams lol and got put into first class the following year.

Get into MIT or Imperial also need brains and money. Unless thinking of Bill Gates or Steve Jobs...

Be real la, China is a superpower and gonna overtake a lot of countries for next decades.

Learning Chinese will definitely helps anyone regardless of race.

No need stereotype SJKC is more hardworking/harder etc.

Just that majority of Chinese parents are very strict and emphasis on good grades thus push their kids to be competitive.
