Hey everyone. Long time lurker on this thread and seen every X50 video (except the new 1 hr video from Hafriz).

Getting tired of waiting 2 months for the X50 dy.. and probably will need to wait 3-6 months. Plus SST gonna kick in soon. What do you guys think between X50 Flagship vs Honda Civic TC-P? I know there's a RM30k gap but if we put that aside, would you go for it? Considered the City V but I'm not impressed that they inherited old engine and didn't provide any ADAS at all in a 2020 model for RM90k. Hence thinking of switching over to Civic TCP.

Sorry if not right forum feel free to ignore. Look forward to any advice.

Anyone receive their X50 recently? Tried to call Proton careline but was informed only towing service available now. Emailed them and got a standard reply.

Sigh, waiting almost 8 months already.

Guys, what color Flagship did you choose? I booked in Nov last year and SA now say can deliver Red by Oct but if White maybe need wait next year..

But I prefer White lah look so classy like Volvo XC series. Any fans of Red here can help convince? Wonder why queue for White longer even though not Flagship special color. Also, if they know more people order White then why not just make more White? Doesn't make sense wan..

Hi friends,

Finally got my car first week Oct after waiting since first week Nov last year. Overall, I give the X50 Flagship 9/10 realistically for the price and it was definitely worth the wait. To be clear, it's a best $/performance, not absolute performance or quality of life (see cons).

Context: All in all ~11 months from LOU to delivery for Flagship Red. I had to change color from white to red else SA said may queue to next year. I needed the car urgently and worry no more SST rebate extension so I just took it. Anyway, fell in love with the Red color now. Previously driving Hyundai Elantra and I test drove all P1 + P2 models including Ativa and X70; Vios G, GRS, City V, RS Hybrid, 2021 and Civic TCP.

Still went for X50 for best value for money. Here are my top 3 pros and cons:

Pros:
1. 1.5TGDi + 7DCT combo is fantastic. Never short of torque under normal driving conditions; smooth take off with minimal turbo lag. Can use Sports Mode if you want more but prepared to make emergency brake tongue.gif
2. ICC system works well on Malaysian roads and stop-go ICC is a game changer. My friends say driving car is like playing console game now. No need to turn wheel or press foot pedals
3. Proton Link app is fantastic way to interact with your car; you only believe when you try remote engine start or unlock car with your phone!
4. 360 camera has dynamic lines and is quite functional, although not HD (unlike static lines in entry level Japanese cars)
5. Lynk & Co brakes really feel solid; never a moment of unsure braking. OTOH, ICC braking may be a bit sudden and jerky if not used to it

Cons:
1. Ultra long wait time of ~1 year is really not practical for many buyers who need cars urgently. This is a national car, not a limited edition Tesla Roadster.
2. Loud 'clunk' whenever Auto Brake Hold takes over, either at traffic stop or when using Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) -> Can deactivate Auto Brake Hold to remove noise
3. Infotainment sucks
3a. No Apple Car Play. Period. Have to live with it unless you don't mind voiding warranty with third party sound system upgrades
3b. No way to turn off Hi Proton system; I don't mind it being a feature but please allow users right to turn off. It's a convenience feature, not a safety features
3c. GKUI 19 sucks; JOOX needs subscription, only can use QDlink else it's a waste of the 10.25" display

Complaints from other forummers that I'm OK with:
1. Wind noise issue: Nah, it's non-issue for me especially when you have some music on
2. Sound system over bluetooth not great due to weak DAC or bluetooh codec, obvious crossover low/high amp profile causing non-linear amplification and distortions: however can solve by playing music through QDlink (I use iPhone). I think sound system is fantastic for the car segment and price
3. High petrol consumption: It's a >RM100k car tuned with high power/weight ratio; it is quite reasonable IMO
4. Turbo lag: whatchu talking about? I think the acceleration is top-tier for its price.

Let me know if you have any questions on X50 itself or comparisons with similar price range cars. I almost went with Civic TCP but couldn't wait for 11th Gen and wanted to save the price difference for other life projects. I am very happy owner and look forward to driving it every day.

Guys, takyah layan this, troll kot hahaha
*
Civic 1.8 no where near X50 FS feature list; Civic TC-P trades pros (Apply Carplay, larger boot space, better interior & exterior styling) and cons (X50 better 7DCT, has 360 camera and costs RM30k less) against X50 FS except for branding clearly Honda wins; but costs ~30% more.

My sense is if rushing for car and budget no issue wait for Civic 11th gen highest spec (RS?); else if value for money and don't mind waiting X50 is clear winner.

If you don't need L2 ADAS, there are much cheaper cars with better bang for buck.

Good luck!

What car tint did you get for your X50? Eyeing 3M Crystalline or Llumar Pinnacle / P4-35 now. What about coating?

My personal opinion, Ativa is a damn good value proposition for younger owners especially women. This 9 mths waiting period for X50 is a deal breaker for a lot of people
*
Agreed. I think if you are ok with the slower acceleration, slightly smaller interior and not full L2 ADAS, then it's good value prop for the lower price, lower FC and P2 reliability, lower maintenance cost etc.

Agree long waiting period is the biggest downside right now. If only P1 can fix the production issues, might see a lot more X50 on the road smile.gif

Bank can extend loan for you no problem. For my case, bank say can renew up to 6 months before new to resubmit application with new payslip.

I use 3M crystalline highest spec.
Cannot use smart tag already due to high IR rejection. 😂
Pro is doesnt feel hot under blazing sun especially mine got sunroof.

QUOTE(idkihavenoidealol @ Oct 15 2021, 10:00 AM)
I did get 3M Crystalline for my X50. There is a 3M branch where the owner is also an X50 owner so there's some special deals (9 months ago, not sure still valid or not)
*
I decided to go with 3M Crystalline too. Did you tint your sunroof? Can it be "house brand building tint" or did you use 3M CR20?

If anyone has Penang 3M authorized dealer contact, can you share your review?

Thx!

Hey guys, 30% VLT for the rear windscreen is it too dark when checking the mirror at night?

And how much VLT % for you guys' sunroof? I'm deciding between 30% and 50% VLT. During the day time I would like some light to enter the cabin but at the same time don't want it to be too hot.
*
Hi there, I just did 3M Crystalline CR20 for rear windows and rear windscreen and last night it looks good but borderline on cannot see. I think any below 20% is too dark and not safe.

For sunroof, usually shop will recommend you take "building tint" as it's cheaper and supposedly same heat rejection (I got quote for ~RM200). I went for 3M CR20 for the sunroof and paid RM500 for peace of mind (whole car 3M yay rclxms.gif). So far, quite happy with the heat rejection but only day 2, so let's see.

even not in sport mode I already smell it when I press the pedal a little harder coming out from toll booth, probably because car still quite new
it's normal, but not advisable for you to tekan 99 your new car yet, need some mileage to break-in first, best to maintain under 3k rpm
*
QUOTE(death_nite @ Oct 17 2021, 01:12 PM)
I dont have that cabin burnt smell but i notice other owners in FB did highlights it. I believe this is normal for new car. My previous cars pun ada burnt smell when Ive just gotten it.

On side note, if ur aircond set auto, the air circulation will sometime change to external air for 30 seconds.

Read smwhere eu regulation require air circulation change to external at certain interval to make sure the air cabin always fresh which helps to reduce fatigue.
*
Noted. Will take care a bit more and tekan less. Service booklet say till first 5,000km.. cannot wait so long weh hahaha devil.gif

Page 118 of X50 manual:
New Vehicle Running-in
The running-in of new vehicle is mainly to improve the surface quality and the friction and wear state of moving parts, so as to extend service life and save fuel. The user should run in the new vehicle according to the following requirements. The running-in period of the new vehicle is 5,000 km. Pay attention to the following guidelines at the initial stage of vehicle operation:
• Avoid depressing the accelerator pedal to the bottom during starting and running.
• In the running-in period, the vehicle should be driven on flat roads, and driving on the muddy road or sand road should be avoided.
• Avoid idling the engine.
• Avoid harsh acceleration.
• Avoid emergency braking in the first 300km of mileage.
• Do not run at same vehicle speed (high or low) for long time.

Total damage berapa? can share a bit your combo?
*
My priorities were (1) JPJ compliant, (2) highest TSER for given VLT and (3) must be Authorized Dealer so that can easily claim warranty throughout Malaysia. So, I took CR70 front windscreen, CR50 front windows, CR20 for rear windows, rear windscreen and sunroof.

Price may vary depending on the tint applicator shop, range is RM2.7-3.0k including "building tint sunroof". If you want 3M tint for sunroof, expect to top up ~RM300. Best part is I called 5 shops and all quoted me same price hmm.gif

QUOTE(danielwoo8 @ Oct 17 2021, 01:42 PM)
Why you didn't consider V-Cool?
*
I did consider V-Kool, Llumar and Huper Optik. The cheapest quote I got for V-Kool was RM3200 (with sunroof "building tint"). I think if use full V-Kool inc sunroof would be ~RM3500 or more. V-Kool is also less transparent than 3M about the spec and doesn't report TSER figures. See 3M datasheet here and V-Kool authorised dealer website here. Also, iinm (i) V-Kool uses sputtered metal technology which may interfere with electronic signals like GPS, Waze etc but (ii) V-Kool has longer 7 years warranty vs 3M's 5 years.

Overall, 3M was cheaper for similar or better spec. For example front windscreen using 70% VLT tint, 3M has higher IRR and lower VLT:
a. 3M CR70 has 50% TSER, 97% IRR, 99% UVR and 69% VLT, ~RM3k inc 3M sunroof
b. V-Kool Premier 70 has 94.5% IRR, 99% UVR and 73% VLT, estimate ~RM3.5k+ inc V-Kool sunroof

Hope this helps you. For most folks I would summarize as: if you only care about solar protection, get 3M else if you want security tint, consider Llumar.

Getting my car in 2 days time. Couldn't get the colour that I initially wanted (jet grey) for the executive variant. Got silver instead.

Been waiting for 13 months. Not gonna wait anymore & just get what is available. Plus, I'm not the one whose gonna drive it everyday.
*
Same for me. Wanted snow white and gave up after ~11 months and took passion red. SA said if want snow white maybe need wait till CNY or later. Problem is what if no more SST rebate extension? gg price go up.

wa, 5k km is too much tbh. the break-in period for new cars nowadays isn't as important as it is used to be, although it is still important.
2k km is enough already, or 2.5k for peace of mind.

however, user manual is there for us to provide maximum care for the vehicle so that manufacturers can save cost by lowering the chance of changing parts under warranty.
safest bet is 2.5k km, it is already sufficient for a new car's break-in/run-in period  thumbsup.gif

proper car break in is to lanjak abit lanjak abit. but not to lanjak all the time when engine new.

Thank you sifus smile.gif Yeah only entering sports mode for short overtaking. Normally in eco/blue mode 99% of time. Never see normal/yellow mode at all LOL

Oh cool! I didn't realize that Eco mode has higher FC. Sounds super weird that Eco has higher FC than normal. My average FC is 11.7L/100km since ~800km so far. Will reset after 1st service. IMO, Sports mode overpower except for quick overtaking or 0-100kmh drag race.

Let me try normal/yellow mode over next few days. For me so far, Eco mode not underpowered lah but I also let the ICC drive for ~50-70% of the time depending on long road or short lorongs. Dreaming to get fully electric and autonomous self-driving Tesla cars many years from today so today can only afford X50 ICC hahaha thumbup.gif

BTW, love the 3M Crystalline full tint so far. Anyone got PPF/clear bra or glass/ceramic coatings? I just put 3M ScotchGard PPF on door handles and front headlamps ~RM500 but comes with 5 year warranty.

Since we are in the topic of Fuel Consumption, I managed to get my x50 to return 6.7L/100km or Approx. (15km/L) with almost 98% Eco Blue Mode at 8000+ total Millage.

Also this is 100% Klang Valley city drive although there quite some months working/driving during MCO.
*
Congrats! That's vey near to manufacturer's claim of ~6.5L/100km. Mine is almost double at 11.7L/100km. I guess FC goes down with mileage and also lighter foot on accelerator. Did you find Eco/blue mode to save FC vs Normal/yellow mode?

If you drive very gently on Eco mode then it will give you best FC. But Viva and Axia always overtaking you tongue.gif
Driving turbo SUV but drive like.... what's the point
*
Haha, don't get me wrong. I also drive fast but not suitable for urban roads where roads are few hundred meters before another traffic light. And no, Viva/Axia can't overtake me hahaha. OK lah this week don't care FC just go yellow see if got difference bruce.gif
