guys, im really confused now. because so many mixed reviews.

dont know need to upgrade the entertainment unit in my wife's x50 or not?

still using the original UI we got last year August, and ive installed waze, spotify etc.

what are your opinions on this?

its the flagship model
*
If on GKUI, just buy the Autokit lah.. I am now a happy Apple CarPlay user and don't have to worry about GKUI anymore.. To me Spotify is still usable on GKUI but Waze occasionally crashes and bugs out.

Just make sure during the service, put giant sticker saying "Please don't update headunit firmware."

Possible to ask the service centre to help me rotate the tyres?

Of course can, but it's cheaper outside

i bought the autokit. but its sluggish, not like the real apple carplay.

and when i use waze together with Spotify on Apple Carplay, when waze audio is on, then the spotify audio will start to be like "in a tunnel" until i press next song.

does this happen to u?
*
Yeah, it's not perfect but still better than GKUI imo. For the "in a tunnel" sound, try to press the Siri button on the main Apple Carplay. You can also press pause and resume song or in Waze you can tap the microphone icon and press cancel. Either of these will reset the CarPlay audio sound profile.

This is a known issue when Waze issues guidance, it takes control of the sound profile and messes it up until you reset it. Also happens to built-in CarPlay per reddit and other threads. So, I just turn off my Waze audio completely and so far so good.

Hello forumers, i'm planning to take X50 FS but a bit worried about all x50 issues and whether its a good choice to go.
I've been driving a honda city 2015 and have a few issues only after 4-5 years of using but seeing X50 problems within 1 week or 1 month of using scares me a lot as the purpose of buying new car besides an upgrade is to have peace of mind. smile.gif I dont have a standby car and really dont prefer to visit SC very frequent unless its a regular service.

So, I have few questions as below:

1. Is it true the x50 batch late 2022 and new batch 2023, got caught up with a lot of QC issues such as the battery, electronics and etc?
2. I can start to see a lot of people complaining in the FB group recently that the battery died just after taking the car for 1 week and even 1/2 months. Is this really happening to some of you?
3. What would be the final verdict, close eyes and just take OR find other better car?

Your opinion and suggestions are most welcome smile.gif
*
A lot has been said about X50 in earlier post - I also did a rant/review a while after I got my car..

Verdict is no regrets to get X50 FS at this price range - any upgrade would be an next-gen EV like the BYD Atto3, Hyundai IONIQ 5 or Kia EV6.. In the price range up to ~RM150-200k I think X50 is better or competitive.

Of course there are things you can do to improve the experience e.g. Autokit to get pseudo-Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, install electric powered tailgate etc but none are real deal-breakers.

Easier to also talk about the three main negatives for me:
1. not the best FC - getting 9-11L/100km depending on road condition, highway vs city drive - hard to fix, except less aggressive right foot
2. HU processor is pretty outdated and underspecced - can fix with Autokit
3. ACC autonomous driving is just good - not a deal breaker, but need to be aware of system limitations

Good luck in your choice!

I'm still using on daily basis. Drive to work and back. Stuck in jam etc.
I trust it fully now on normal highway driving. Basically hands off for 1 hour drive on PLUS highway.
Braking profile I mistaken before. Placebo effect. It's still using X50 ACC so braking profile is the same as previous.
So if you are getting it for better braking profile, wait until if they update. I am requesting for some feature updates regarding braking profile.
AEB yes will still follow X50 settings because Kommu still doesn't control any accelerator / braking.
At moment Kommu is only giving turning signals to X50. Throttle / Brake is still ACC from current X50 radar and X50 camera.

How did you manage to drive hands-free without the "please hold steering wheel" warning?

REF: Airbag failure message
Just went to the proton service yesterday..they basically told me nothing can be done... adjust/jiggle it every now and then and live with the defect. they don't change the cable or connectors.

Is that what other Proton 3S/4S centres have been telling X50 owners facing this problem?  Is there a permanent fix for this simple problem ... can any independent workshops find a solution?
Power window (driver side) also refused to open a few days ago.  They reset it - probbaly holding the switch down for an extended period as discussed by some owners.....I triwed that before going to the shop but didn;t work for me....maybe missed some steps.

also coolant at minimum level. Bought the Geely coolant (RM27) to top up. No leaks according to workshop.
*
Sorry to hear about airbag issue.

For coolant, I asked and they said it's ok as long as not below Min level as the coolant will expand during highway driving. What did your SC say?

transmission hard to say, sound like got few cases but didnt know how their progress.
x70 gearbox issue 99% from CBU 6AT.
but will solve after claim another 6AT (or they straight give 7DCT?)
Maybe I'm crazy/oversensitive but after ~1.5yrs, I feel the steering vibration at stop/park is more obvious than when the car was new. Hoping this doesn't develop into more serious issue.. How has your experience been?

Anyone have try use CarPlay on gkui os? Can use wheel button? For my atlas os CarPlay cannot use wheel button
*
Hi, yes wheel button to increase/decrease volume and go to next/previous track works. However, no pause/play so have to use mute button.

FYI, using CPC200-CCPA + CarPlay with Carlinkit OS version 2022.06.27.1555

Good luck

FYI, went for 30,000km service today and now system recommends to service aircond. Cost is RM110 (after RM27 discount).

Service center said they will flush the aircond gas and replace.

Also, I put a large sticker saying "Hi Proton, please dont update HU! Slow! Thx" and they didn't touch it smile.gif So can continue to use CarPlay

me skip the 30k ac service. because making no sense for 2xx (not recall the price, surely not 110)
and they even dare to use warranty to push me. sound like 30K no service and later AC got problem it still under warranty.
*
Agreed - it's not in the official X50 service schedule and should not affect warranty. For me, it was RM110 + I wouldn't mind paying for cool AC in hot hot Malaysia so it's ok lah.. But hope forum members take note and make informed choice.

Found a website and also Toyota recommending to service aircond on a 30,000km basis so maybe there are some good reasons...

Dear Sifus,

Aside from the issues like "wind noise at 80kmph" or "battery kong fiasco if left car unlocked overnight", generally speaking, is there any showstopper or issues that would deter new buyers to get this car? ๐Ÿค”
*
None at this price. Period. I'd say if you set correct expectations on FC (~9-11L/100km) then all's good.

Friends, sharing the latest update for CarLink Software version 2023.03.17.0927 and Box version 2022.11.19.1218 works well. No major issues and the latest upgrades to improve Spotify audio when plugged in as well.

When you boot up car, before connecting to device, press the settings icon on upper left corner (second one from left iirc). Then scroll all the way down to upgrade version. Good luck
