Does anyone here felt weird that Aurobay (Volvo + Geely Powertrain) has removed its 3cyl 1.5TGDi engine while it is no longer being offered by Volvo and surely being phased out by Geely but for Proton it is putting it in every foreseeable car possible including future ones.

Currently only Proton and Geely Philippines still offering the 1.5TGDi 3 cylinder X50/Coolray while all other Geely supplied country has updated to the 4 Cyl TGDi option including Geely Cambodia that sounds kinda sad.
*
I remember reading the X50 3cyl engine will be replaced. 4cyl will replace, but not clear if Malaysia will get this model.. The next Coolray is a facelift model with 4cyl engine. Dont have any engine details.

depend.

that 4cyl i think spec like exact 3cyl we using, just 4cyl... ofc if geely didnt change anything. (and i doubt they will)
*
Oh I see. I would actually prefer the 4 cyl. if the power out put is the same. At present my only concern on the 3cyl model is the engine roughness!

oh its kinda typical. everyone says its 3cyl so not bothering me haha
*
So what you are saying is other than the sound everything else works fine. And the rough sound is not a big deal. Now that the engine sounds a little rough, does it affect the engine in any way?

after awhile you just kinda get used to lol

i mean for 3 years+ ownership? nothing broke yet. but i just claimed drive shaft last year. thats about it.

battery still works
side mirror not changed
alternator not kaput like some reported
windows still working on all sides
tyres prolly due for a change. looking into michelin (i have lost faith in continental)
edit: still gets me up to 220kmph (dont ask for FC haha)

oh your best bet for asking tyres is in the sub forum tyre talk
*
Good to hear the car in general is working fine. However drive shaft to go within 3 years is a concern. Is this a common defect on X50?

What is your city & outstation fc?

it went down in 2nd year. and those who observed kluk kluk or some bumpy noise when going over speed bumps or potholes in low speed will go and claim it. and warranty for that part will be extended. at least thats what i got from the club

selangor

outstation FC lol dont mention it. im a speed demon. just know the full tank can be depleted within 200km hahah
*
Wow 200KM for full tank is really high. Even my 3 liter salon give more than double that!

2 month more to 3 year.
only replaced flywheel as SC detected it have some noise (tbh i didnt)

*
This is what I am concerned about.

A 3 cyl engine is bacially unbalanced due to absence of the 4th power stroke in one cycle. To prevent viabration and rough engine operation the flywheel is built in. It was always bugging me as to what happens in years with wear & tear. Which means the flywheel needs to be replaced.

I'm pretty sure this would be expensive when warrantys void! Need to split the engine for this replacement!

Tks for your input.

which mean you have more concern even without asking owner feedback, then this car shouldn't in your wishlist at all.
Actually apply 'if any doubt, dont buy' can apply on car even home appliance. as all these need to stay with you for years
*
I am an engineer. My concerns are little deep rooted. The replies i got so far didnt really answer my question. I dont balme any owner cos they will reply only on their experience.

You are right, I have to apply 'dont buy when in doubt'! Tqvm!

I see.
because when count in how low the B segment EV pricing. 100K+ actually have tons of choice, can avoid like honda steering rack, x50 cyl/driveshaft, chery broken torsion beam drama.
but again, all these new comer EV still 'new' we dont know their quality, who know we get another chery  whistling.gif
*
I will certainly not go EV. There are so many issues which average jack is not aware, and blindly buying! Cos every one is sold into the idea of less moving parts, therfore less maintenance! This is far from the truth, no engine yes, but still a whole host of moving parts which will experience greater wear & tear than IC cars! In USA huge exodus of EV owners reverting to IC engines after realization!

There is no perfect vehicle. As such my thought now is to pursue the cost of X50 flywheel replacement at non SC. Treat this as part & parcel of major service maintenance at some point.

This engine has already been in use since 2016. You can search the Chinese forums or groups to see if there are any issues.

A bit difficult to ask local users since Proton only brought this model in recently at the end of 2020.

This is a good idea to get a clear view on the seriousness of this issue.

The fact that many owners agree to the noise & roughness is clear that this issue is present. How serious & when does it need a replacement is the question. Whatever the case, its covered whilst under warranty. Its of great concern to me as I keep a car well after warranty.

wonder how is EV maintenance like, i see mostly these days got lifetime warranty on motor and battery and what not. but how about other stuff lol.

those are like tanks, suspension and tyre most likely is the fastest wear hmm.gif
*
Yes you are on the right track. The battery adds substantial weight to the car overall. As a result everything: drive train, suspension, shock absorbers, wheels, tyres, steering rack etc, has to be beefed up. This adds more weight to overall weight. Due to the weight, all items experience heavy load impacts on the road and greater wear & tear than IC vechicles. Initial EV tyres were costing $2500 a piece & do not get as much mileage as IC vehicles. Now there are Korean made EV tyre at $1500.

After 2 years maintenance will shoot up, more than double of an IC vehicle!

Mine is also 3 years plus and this dual mass flywheel problem getting louder especially on 6th gear and going uphill. Might also hear it at 5th and 7th gear at certain speed. Booked to get it replaced and have to leave the car for few days. Estimate damage is 2K plus. Check the parts selling in shopee is 2.5K. Very unfortunate cry.gif that this issue came up after 3 years where the warranty expired. I didn't even manage to drive for more than 6 months during MCO time.
*
Tq for this feedback. Being an engineer, I was very concerned about this problem. The flywheel is used as a balance weight for the apsence of the 4th cylinder in a 3cylinder ICE. Without this counter weight the engine will viabrate quite a bit. No one really understood this issue and as such did not get a proper feadback. I suppose the car is still relatively new.

Sadly there is no choice but to change that flywheel. However this will always happen every 3 - 4 years, depending on usage. I guess owners have to consider this as major service item.

To check if that things are covered under unlimited mileage 5 years warranty or *3 years 60k km, afraid on the later. Cz if u look at t&c, only engine, gb part are under unlimited mileage warranty but again there are *t&c on it
*
I guess everyone needs to take a indepth look at their T & C. as to where they stand on the warranty claim. This is an integral part of ICE.

family members buying x50 facelift premium spec, any idea the spec, tint brand, as told factory installed the tint.

Ask SA, as usual, no idea.
*
I picked my X50 3 days ago. No idea about the tint brand, but it's well done & sufficient. Very satisfied with the performance. Absolutely love the digital interior. Just managed to get my head round the digital controls, love it! tongue.gif

Tks for the info bro. A week now since I got the car. Tint is good. Steering feels a bit light. Thats cos I was driving Peugeot before this. Love the steering feel & feadback on my Pug.

You can change the steering wheel to sport if you want to to be heavier.
*
I've had the car for 3 weeks. Tried sport mode than adaptive later. Adaptive suits me better as it learns my style of driving. The steering does feel slightly heavy a bit.

Tried to switch off auto headlights, I prefer to on headlights at my discretion. But it seems to go back to auto at every start. Like auto on is default mode. Any suggestion to have it in off mode?
