KUALA LUMPUR (July 14): Japanese retailer AEON BiG (M) Sdn Bhd’s headquarters in Subang, Selangor has been sealed in accordance with a writ of seizure and sale obtained by the bailiff of the court against AEON BiG for failure to settle a judgment sum of over RM140 million after the service of judgment on them.

The action was taken by Mega Continental Sdn Bhd, which is a unit of Penang-based Belleview Group.

This is the latest AEON BiG hypermarket to close, after the Alor Setar outlet ceased its tenancy early.

According to its FY18 financials — the latest data available — AEON BiG posted revenue of RM1.68 billion and net loss of RM54.6 million. It had total liabilities of RM1.06 billion and retained losses of RM561.5 million against total assets of RM1.1 billion.

Today, only 21 AEON BiG stores are still operating.

the hypermart market is overcrowded. all main players are being squeezed out of business right now. the winner will be the one with deep enough pockets to withstand the losses. tesco, giant, aeon, mydin all feeling the pinch.

if aeon big folds, its a relief for tesco because it means more market share for them.

AEON Big was Carefore (however heck you spell that), before AEON bought them. To prevent identity crisis, they name if AEON Big in order to distinguish themselves from the real AEON. Just think of it as the "chapalang" or cheap version of AEON.

I think it's the cheapest and most variety for dry stuff like cereal, milk, noodle, rice, tissue, etc.

For fresh goods, nothing beats JG/VG/BIG/Oliver

aeon big sucks, usually very dodgy looking, prices also not so cheap to justify their outlook too. went to tesco lukut, so clean and nice. Cheap and nice doesnt mean the place have to be dirty and dodgy

The one at Bandar perda move to Alma BM, when some shops dun wan follow,

All other same branch at other aeon Jusco also need to close

Means you want one place, you need open at all place

Because regular Aeon got lots of clothes and got lots of makan place. Aeon Big only buy groceries and some house hold stuff.

Hypermart/food business section making money..but not enough to cover losses from shopping mall / retail business...The whole Aeon group reported the same issue.

5) their team of management? Speechless. Act langsi like pegawai, but no power at all.

Used to work part time at fast food restaurant inside Aeon Bukit Tinggi.

Dont mess around with Aeon Bukit Tinggi crowd. The crowd that come to this mall is huge compared to other aeon mall like Shah Alam.

Of course they rate Bukit Tinggi Aeon better. That's the only big mall that popular in Klang.

Other parts of Klang are "dead". Totally dead

No proper shopping mall.

Starting at Shah Alam and towards to Subang baru ada banyak mall.

Since last year lots of bigger mall give better rental rate to lure retailers (except the big4 of course) this year my phone mau letup d.. Every day got different malls contact me.

We threaten aeon we will close down our shop too if no reduction and rebate. Pay nothing since march.

We got nothing to lose since we are expanding in bigger & popular malls, and mostly with much better rental rate.

Really dunno what aeon thinking. I think their big boss still sleeping.

Toilet, escalator, lift, lighting etc...

Do you visit there recently? So many shops closed down since 2019.

hypermarkets nowadays dun earn much ledi, they earn mostly from the obscene display rack prices that they charge manufacturers to display their products in those hypermarkets, for example u wan sell your own brand of cookies in tesco u gotta pay 50k per month to display ur product in tesco branches

I would not shed any tears for them.

It seems these hypermarts goes downhill in their quest to expand especially by acquiring rivals. When it was Carrefour the selection of imported European food products was every bit as good as Cold Storage and Village Grocers, since AEON took it over it went into a downward spiral and places such as Village Grocer, Jaya Grocer and BIG steadily outpaced them.

Tapi they hire foreigner bangla ke pakis.

Suruh buang kulit ayam or bersihkan ikan bukan main susah!
Tak nak buat.
Pastu aku beli ayam nutriplus vacuum pack - dia terpaksa buat sebab ayam mahal.
Ikan pulak - ikan besar je dia buang sisik dn insang.
Itu pon kena marah2.
Dah lar buat x bersih! Main cincai je buat.

Aku pergi Jaya Grocer - beli ikan murah pon - xyah suruh buat pon.
Dia org buat dgn bersih.
Xyah rayu ke bagai.

Teco pon sama - konfirm x buang kulit ayam - sebab semua ayam murah.

To be frank, my company products has better sales like 1.5x better in BKT Tinggi too, than in Sunway Pyramid =)
The sales figures in BKT Tinggi is as good as in Midvalley, when it's peak.
