I have an unused 3-pin round hole aircon wall outlet.

I want to use the outlet for my electric wall clock but it has a 3-pin flat plug.

I went to the electrical hardware shop to ask for an adapter but was told not available. The ones which are available are the slightly smaller 3 multi pin adapter which does not fit into the aircon outlet.

Is there an available adapter for it as I don't want to call in a electrician to change the wall outlet?

Change the faceplate and also change the fuse at fuse box. 20amp current to a 13 amp socket is a risk.

I thought if you don't have a 20amp draw the current will be whatever the draw up to 20amp? It's not constantly supplying 20 amps right.

Yes you are right. But just for safety better to just change the fuse to be the same as the wall plug.

The wiring should be able to handle all the load up to 20 amps as it was intended.

I prefer not to take a chance that a 13amp wall plug might draw more power since it can go more, since the fuse allows it.

Change the faceplate or wall socket is a little difficult for a non-technical person like me. If there is an available adapter for it would be easier.

There's no harm if I use an electrical appliance of lesser voltage/amp on a larger voltage/amp wall outlet, is there? For a non-techie, I understand if it is the other way around then cannot.

No harm, the plug difference is to avoid overloading the small capacity wire with wrong/large load.

Change the faceplate is the best idea. Adapters can melt and cause a lot of issues.

you have 2 options
1. ... buy a 3 pin round plug. for your clock .
2, change out the round socket to a normal 3 pin square one.

pick one nod.gif

for safety you need to change the MCB to the correct rated one in your Mains Dis Box.

MCB technically no need to change if the wiring is overspec for the appliance already. brows.gif Because it was originally for AC usage..the in-wall wiring and MCB will match.

The 3 pin plug top will protect the downstream appliance - this one might wanna change to smaller amp like 3A or 5A.

It is very easy to change the face plate to normal 3 pin plug. But please make sure u already switched off the power supply and have a test pen in hand to double check before starting with any work.

what you say is right factually.

my concern is as below .
I have experience a few mcb trips due to a appliance fault and once a fault on my extension block due to dog pee on it.
i never had a blown 13A fuse / on the 3 pin plugs .
I think many people also got the same experience.

so now i am unsure how effective is the fuse on the plugs.
cos the mcb trips off faster . safety wise i would say more effective.

there was a posting last week about burnt plug and burnt 3 pin socket.
the mcb when off but the fuse still works.
