QUOTE(Mavik @ Oct 27 2021, 06:07 PM) I have had both before, still macam no difference. Pedal uphill still also very tiring LOL. I had a 28T chainring initially but I killed my crank arm which led me to change to a Shimano SLX one with a 32T (only 32T was in stock). Recently swapped back to 30T because I was having issues trying to tackle the technical uphill with 32T. Try out the oval ring for 2 days straight.....and im loving it....I believe it might not make a different for strong rider but for weak rider like me....definitely can feel the difference, i getting less tired going uphill compare to my 28T round chainring and the pedalling stroke feel so much difference...usually on 28T i would crank all the way up to highest gear but on the oval i would only stick to 2nd or 3rd last high gear on the same road..... |

QUOTE(olay biscuit barrel @ Nov 13 2021, 02:26 AM) You should factor in also that you're getting fitter/stronger. There's a hill I go to every weekend, 3km with 8% gradient. My first solo non-stop attempt was 25:56. My 5th try was 19:42. Same 34t chainring. I'm now contemplating of getting a 36t for my xc hardtail before I get a proper road bike. I tried both round 28T and oval 38T.... somehow i feel much better on the oval coz my legs are more relax...not sure if oval 30T give me more cadence on the climb with weird feeling like 'peaky' during cadence on pedal stroke .... |

QUOTE(Mavik @ Feb 11 2022, 09:47 AM) Assegai are good but damn they are heavy. I run a combo of Assegai front (2.5") and DHRII rear (2.3"). But now going to stick with both DHRII front and rear. My main concern is uphill climbing..... i wonder how the performance compare to other tyre like DHR and DHF |

QUOTE(thurtin @ Feb 11 2022, 01:19 PM) Climbing will depend mostly on the rear tyre, type of terrain and how strong your legs are. Ah~! thanks for the advise. Now i see my concern here because i been travelling with 2 type of road....If you put such as aggressive tyre like assegai on the rear, its great for climbing on wet/muddy trails, but not so good for dry/road climbs because of the width and rolling resistance. If you prefer this and have strong legs, then ok la. For me I use assegai/aggressor combo. I am not a strong climber. I just want to point the bike down the trail. Assegai in front is wide and grippy, good for making sure I don't slip off roots and rocks that easily. The faster rolling aggressor in the rear helps a lot for me when climbing the tarmac because less drag and going down the trails in Kiara. One trade off of the aggressor is that I can't lock up the rear brakes when going down faster because if I do, the rear will slide all over the place. 80% on the cement pave road of climb which i usual i climb with around gradient 8%-10% 20% on the road loose rocky trail. Sometime i go just for fun as it good for training leg due to i need to pedal harder to overcome those loose rock terrain Look like i need to go back to DHF and DHR combo...... QUOTE(skyblu3 @ Feb 11 2022, 09:48 PM) What's your headtube angle ? Just got my brand new Maxxis ikon 2.35 to replace my old DHF 2.35 front....That will affect the climbing. Tyres ,... Don't think it is so significant. Surprisingly, after changing up the front .... now feel very light and more lively when engage in the uphill climb but im going to miss the stability the DHF provide when going downhill.... Those ikon especially size 2.35 are freaking expensive tires.....can but 2pcs of ikon 2.20 already |

QUOTE(skyblu3 @ Feb 21 2022, 10:48 AM) What you using at the back? back im using some cheap kenda tyre 1.95I believe when it comes to climbing or rolling resistance, rear tyre have bigger effect. QUOTE(oldmanbythegarden @ Feb 21 2022, 10:51 AM) Lazada, Import from china..... Ikon size 2.35 is very hard to find here locally, let alone rare in shoppi also.....took 1 month to reach here This post has been edited by doppatroll: Feb 21 2022, 11:03 AM |

QUOTE(Roadwarrior1337 @ Feb 22 2022, 11:02 AM) Yes ikon got good rolling Liao. I remember ride with road bikers on my Mtb to klia using ikon. I can keep up with them. I loose them on the downhill and flat but catch them on the climb. My Strava shows 28kmh average which was a surprise to me with my mtb and big ass ikons not sure if it is me or just the new tire feeling....Ikon feel like it had some auto assist when climb up.... im going to drop the width of my tire to 2.20 once i change the new wheel set this week.... giving it even more light weight feeling and see how it perform This post has been edited by doppatroll: Feb 22 2022, 09:21 PM |
