Digi: u want 5G, we want more money.

Seems they learnt their lesson from 3G -> 4G. To our detriment unfortunately.

Problem is not with Digi but rather dinosaurs from Celcom. Digi was a forward thinking company, generous with quota and always quick to adapt to market needs etc. Fairly sure we won’t be seeing this kind of problem had Digi remain solely under Telenor’s control.

Port-out guys. Just port-out. There is no other way because only numbers speak volume.

For prepaid rahmah, I don’t see any mention of 5g. If the speed is capped at 3mbps, why would 5g be necessary?

Potentially more stable connection at places where 4G is severely congested.

Also when you visit oversea, you can use VoWifi to call your Malaysian numbers as local rate (which is FOC for most plans).
*
Speaking of this, anyone on CelcomDigi postpaid plan can confirm if VoWiFi works overseas ?

It worked for me with Digi years ago while I was oversea.

Now I don't know after CelcomDigi merger.
*
Digi WiFi Calling definitely still works overseas. But I’m wondering if anybody on CelcomDigi Postpaid plan had tried if CelcomDigi allows WiFi Calling to be used overseas too.

QUOTE(Keatsan @ Feb 21 2024, 07:15 PM)
I've experienced an event whereby when my phone is connected to WiFi but the signal to nearest Telco was weak and showed No Service hence unable to make any phone call over WiFi.

VoWIFI still needs a signal connected to Telco Tower in order to make a phone call over WiFi.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Works even in Flight Mode as another user mentioned.

QUOTE(LaiN87 @ Feb 21 2024, 08:31 PM)
Digi Prepaid Plan VoWiFi works overseas in Jan2024.
*
Yes. Digi WiFi Calling is working overseas but how about those on CelcomDigi Postpaid plan ? Anyone has any idea ?

Because Celcom WiFi Calling doesn’t work overseas right ? So I wonder if those on CelcomDigi Postpaid plan is able to connect to WiFi Calling whilst overseas…

QUOTE(Sam Leong @ Feb 21 2024, 08:44 PM)
no, VoWiFi works even when you are in flight mode or totally no signal
Basically it uses the same technology as VoLTE (Both based on IMS)
What VoWiFi do is actually register the SIM card to telco's server and establish a IPSEC/IKEv2 connection between telco's server and user devices and transmit voice data via this tunnel

Digi allows overseas ASN / IP to register IMS so it works at overseas too
*
True. It used to work on Qatar Airways flights before Covid. Multiple SMS blasted in after I was connected to the internet via the plane Wi-Fi and my iPhone at the time was on Flight Mode.

Qatar however blocks VOIP already. So Digi WiFi Calling no longer works on Qatar Airways flights anymore.

By the way, Digi WiFi Calling also doesn’t work on Singapore Airlines flights.

To be safe, as long as there's internet connectivity, then can make VoWIFI calls using local rates. Double safety protection would be aeroplane mode to avoid WiFi cut off and switch to roaming mobile network.

Will practise this.
*
In the event you're on a call on Digi WiFi Calling overseas and the WiFi drops, the call will be automatically cut off too.

So far my knowledge know Since 5G is shared by all they can't get enough profit with existing plans that why most telco charged 5G access fee since they unified they plan they want earn more on 4G it seems. My experience my Digi sim always lock in 4G+ most of times while using then it switch to 5G Where as Maxis U mobile lock in 5G all-time
*
Maxis planned to charge for 5G but it was never implemented.

My 5G experience is the completely opposite of yours. My Digi always connects to 5G even if signal is weak whereas my Maxis will switch to 4G if the area has weak 5G signal.

QUOTE(petpenyubobo @ Mar 1 2024, 04:58 PM)
Both companies were already financial despair mode and that's the reason the merger took place.
*
Not sure what made you think Digi was in some sort of financial difficulties. Profit goes up and down. The Swedes wanted to exit from some markets in Asia as the profit margin was no longer attractive to them but Digi was far from being in financial despair.

What long is the  Digi Prepaid Best 2017 grace period?

Does Reload of 1 Day validity (RM1) extends the grace period?
*
Grace period is 90 days for Digi Best Prepaid 2017

Yes. 1 day of validity extension will extend the grace period by another 90 days upon expiry.

Is this response from Digi on the MCMC portal acceptable?

user posted image

I don't think it's acceptable but there really is nothing much we can do until there is a mass port-out.

Maxis is not as expensive as it used to be. In fact Hotlink offers very attractive monthly subscription plans now. Do check it out. You can always port back in next time after CelcomDigi loons have finally come to their senses. Mass port-out is the only way CelcomDigi will finally feel the pressure to finally remove all the 5G speed cap imposed on certain postpaid plans and probably finally activate 5G access for all plans be it legacy or current plans.

Is unlimited 5G still working outside Sabah ? Because T&C has been updated. So it looks like Hotlink will eventually block 5G usage outside Sabah for this particular pass.

Has anyone been able to roam and use Wifi calling recently?

Whilst we're still on this topic about Digi WiFi Calling overseas, i also can confirm that it works on the plane too when it was connected to the plane's WiFi.

I did not attempt to make a call but i was able to receive SMS normally. This was on Singapore Airlines flights last month and signal also changed to Digi WiFi calling upon successful connection to KrisWorld over WiFi.
