Yeah in japan these things are just toys, kids can play them without significant parent suppor.. in malaysia they are hobbies that require a lot of money.. adults dominate

same with Magic the Gathering... over there they are considered as child's play... chump change.. here, a single card can cost you a few meals for a few days
*
This is what happens when adult takes over things meant for kids

Kek u and I have same taste.. first one I bought proto emperor zx auldey during cny from my auntie kedai rhncit... Kena scam bcoz the cars are alrdy siap pasang .... Aka second hand.

Then one day my mom say wan buy for all of us again... Then we go choose tamiya . Kek. I picked dash 3 shooting star Becoz of the unique spiky wheels

But the wheels machem make it slower ....

Did anyone here buy those 1/24 scale model kits? Anyone remember going to Hobby Jaya at Sg Wang to buy Tamiya kits?

My first Tamiya kit was a 1/24 scale Mercedes 500 SEC with the Lorinzer body kit bought by my late granddad who drove a 500 SEC at that time, his did not have the body kit as it was stock standard from the factory and remained that way till it was sold. The next kit I had was a BMW M635CSI because my late grandma drove a BMW 628CSI and I painted it silver just like her car. Sadly none of those cars or kits remain, the cars met their end as the COE expired and the kits were lost in a house fire. Would love to buy those kits again but it turns out to be easier to find the real car than the kits.

I also had the 1/10 RC ones, had the Big Foot Monster Truck, an off road buggy named Manta Ray and a Lancia Delta rally car. A puddle in the garden was all I needed to have fun those days.

Other than Tamiya was also into balsa wood R/C Spitfire and also had a replica Airwolf.

Then came the phase of life where I lost interest in it because of girls and Play Station.

back when i started, it was only Tamiya, only see the other brands coming out after i stopped playing, was too pricey for a kid like me to keep up with the hobby. Had plenty of fun tho..

back then used to hang out at Nam Lee in ss3, and the new shop a few doors away.. and also the one in atria just infront of the lift. the kits back then were around 19.90 and comes with motor, during that time, fastest motor was only hyperdash and those modded motors. only later they released ultradash motor..
