After using an ortholinear, there's no more going back to a staggered layout smile.gif

Don't mind the mismatched keycaps. Just put on whatever spares I can get my hands on until the actual keycaps arrive

bought keychron k3 and k8 directly from keychron, 15% discount
both not bad

got myself the K8 before, with the hot swappable optical switches. quite nice.

but find that the optical browns and reds have some kind of rather soft click to them

4. Gazzew Boba U4T. My new favourites. Long pole stems in a proprietary nylon blend housings. The pole bottom out delivers on the Thocks. Already smooth without lube, after lubing it is even smoother and sounds better. Very tight tolerances, no filming needed. And with very very light lube to the tactile bumps, a small amount of tactility is lost and smoothness gained, a tactical decision. Coupled with a light (to me) 62g spring, I'm getting the light tactile that I want, no wobble and beautiful sound. The only downside is the tops are opaque which I wanted clear for lighting purposes, but with my custom clear acrylic case, it turns out that didn't matter after all.
*
I do find that these are better out of the packaging than the glorious pandas, and cheaper too. you can use them as it is, or just apply a small amount of lube to the base of the spring and the rails of the bottom housing (this is what gazzew recommended if you want to lube these switches)

It's this same switch that won my wife who's a long time linear user to the tactile gang too, although she uses the silent U4 for her office keyboard.

Yup I saw Gazzew's lubing method as well as his recommendation to use lube thinner than 205G0. But he admitted that his method is more for speed and efficiency. Since I wasn't really pressed for time, I tested using my normal lubing method (Taeha's method) and was happy with the results, so that's what I ended up using.
*
ah ok. now I'm wondering if it watched or read correctly on what Gazzew said, or what I assumed what he said. cause I watched a follow up video by Taeha where he was lubing again with Gazzew's recommendations with a more minimal application.

Hi, noobie here. Been using mkb's with cheapo blues for a few years now and want to switch to linear. Looking for a keyboard with these features;

- hot swappable
- compact (ish)
- has arrow keys
- RGB
- Wireless 2.4G
- Budget RM350~

Saw this taobao mkb floating around here and kinda interested in it since it looks like it matches most of my spec but but don't know what the options are cuz I can't read Mandarin and also not familiar with TTC switches/ colors. Can someone advise me on which option to choose for best silent linears or tactiles? also does the keyboard comes with lubed switches/stabs?

Might order this through an agent. Already have the keycaps.

tq

You can consider a Keychron. I was using their K8 very happily until I got itchy and built myself a ortholinear

SP-Star Luminous switches. I got 10 each of these cause I was curious about them. They're pretty nice linear switches. very smooth even without any lubrication.

Best of all, they glow in the dark!

you guys should join and ask this at mymkb fb group also, https://www.facebook.com/groups/MalaysiaMechanicalKeyboard
yes, they are decent linear switches.

sp-star is one of my preferred base to make custom switches. with the right spring type/weight, and lube, it will feel even closer to individual preferences.

I'm wondering now what's a good stem to change into this body, so I can get a glow in the dark tactile

Swapped out the leaf and stem with those from a SP-Star purple, and now I have a glow in the dark tactile switch smile.gif

Next is to experiment with spring weights to see what I like best

on sounds, there's something that I just recalled, of the very old keyboards from Digital Electronic Corporation that I used to use on the Alpha workstations.

the keyboards themselves are pretty silent, but they do give a very soft beep on every key press. but it looks like nobody else has really done this except for DEC

Sofle 2.1 RGB smile.gif

Or it will be RGB when the SMD LEDs that I ordered arrive in the mail

Put on a mix of cherry & gateron browns that I've got lying around, with DSA keycaps to test it out.

Still need to customise the layout, and get the switches that I want for this, and maybe a proper case too

Yeah was considering buying masking tape earlier but decided to hold off on it because I forgot my scissors at work. Now looking at Watashi tape since I heard it's less sticky in case I want to remove it later on. Not sure how much of a difference that'll have on the acoustics compared to the former. Probably not going to do another sound mod for awhile while I get used to the sound of the latest one.

washi tape works well. the tape material and stickiness is the same as the masking tapes used for hobby models. they stick on quite well, and they also peel off well too.
