back in v1, i was still wondering why the rave reviews about rubber dome keyboards when mkbs existed. just surprisingly not well known at least in the lowyat forum when i looked at the time hmm.gif

and those prices for so called gaming keyboards (rubber dome) doh.gif I also bought into this, i had a logitech G15. it was ok, but then i later found out about mkb, and after making that switch (no pun intended)...... i felt silly spending that money on a logitech rubberdome gaming keyboard sweat.gif the typing experience was shockingly night and day difference.

these days, it's probably a harder sell for rubber dome (so called) premium gaming keyboards, when there are lots of mkb options out there (especially the linear switches like reds etc, that are ideal for gamers. or if you are casual like myself, then something like mx browns or similar tactile switches are more your thing nod.gif )

there is still a place for rubberdomes, for the cheapest possible keyboards (maybe you want to prioritize your budget for a better cpu, graphics card or monitor, because you are on a tight budget, that's fine). but when asking for premium prices, they SHOULD NOT be rubberdome keyboard puke.gif

Now V32 , mkb is very popular and well known. and even brands like logitech is selling mkbs these days. mission accomplished thumbup.gif

Razer has a new membrane keyboard in the market in the form of the Cynosa V2. This succeeds its first generation model, and is for those who are looking for a gaming keyboard but without the premium of mechanical switches.  confused.gif

i strongly recommend going mkb. Aren't those around 400-500? or maybe it's cheaper these days? confused.gif

Trust me it's worth the price even if it cost a bit more nod.gif

Heck i spent a bit more on dye sublimated and double shot keycaps. And the contrast is as clear as since day 1 when i bought them. And the mechanical switches still fine up till now. Yes you do pay a bit more but you still get a better product, something you use probably often.

I use to have painful palms typing, but not since i switched mx brown switches from membrane keyboard biggrin.gif

sure there is still a place for membrane keyboards. but i wouldn't purchase a so called gaming keyboard at that price. you can get a plain keyboard for far cheaper (the only point is, you want a cheap keyboard, that's it). if you need an actual gaming keyboard, or just a much better keyboard, just increase your budget and go for mkb thumbup.gif

i spent on 3 mkbs before i called it quits. My main driver MKB is still solid up to today nod.gif doubleshot and dye sublimated keycaps still clear as the day i bought them. No new replacement required.

My only experience with led lighting was back when i use a Logitech G15, but even then the lighting was subpar compared to whats available these days. If i bought a new MKB, i'd probly try a doubleshot mkb with led lighting. There quite a lot of choices for this now thumbup.gif

some interesting stuff to share

why qwerty.. why the keyboard is laid out as such
https://idealtech.com.my/2019/09/25/how-qwe...eyboard-layout/

later came out dvorak, which is supposedly better for keyboard for faster typing and less strain

So you'd need a dvorak keycap set (although not necessarily if your a don't see keycaps when you type, or you have blank keycaps).

hmm.gif i don't really like wireless keyboards, but the option is available if you do. good thing though about this mkb, they opt for the optical micro mechanical switches which is definitely a move forwards for mkbs these days nod.gif

Hi Lowyat,

Excuse if reposting. Do you guys know why this phenomenon occur?

Keyboard from Mr DIY-
when press two button together 35% of the time one button will come out slightly later than the other. doh.gif .

Logitech K120 - don't have the above problem. press two button okay. Consistent
But Logitech got ghosting problem sweat.gif . CHEAP Mr. DIY no ghosting problem.
Use it to play fighting games.

it's likely that the keyboard doesn't support nkro (n-key rollover)
*

sad.gif

i'm not against getting rubber dome keyboards if the goal is to save on budget to spend on other things that take priority (we all have our own situations). but if you are well off, probly consider going mkb if you type often. it's worth it trust me. i use to have finger pain when typing. problem went away after switching to mkbs (i use a cherry mx brown which is a nice balance between gaming and simply typing posts) smile.gif (obviously i wasn't use a black mx switch, cause those things are tough to use unless you got the muscle shocking.gif )

and like horn pointed out, those cheap keyboards, it's likely they are 2kro or 6kro, but not likely to be NKRO.

How often do you guys lube the switches?
*
....never o-O; lmfao

keyboard still works?

at most, all i do is remove the keycaps, wash them, then clean out any dirt stuck in the keyboard. thats it smile.gif

if there is a serious issue where a switch is non functional, then i'd have to replace that switch. hasn't happened yet to me so far confused.gif

keycaps wearing out.... not an issue for me because i use doubleshots and dye sublimated keycaps. there may be some shine, especially on the spacebar, but it's not that bad or noticeable either.

u may think keyboards r a small unimportant things, but think again. it was a huge dillema especially for china with their complex language laugh.gif until they finally cracked it and came up with a solution. which interestingly enuff also helped to innovate the usage of predictive texting from the cloud. but for a country like china where there everything u say and think is heavily monitored/censored, is another dillema of whether such tech when under control of an entity like the cccp is a good thing rolleyes.gif but regardless, it's interesting how complex languages like this one example, manage to cram in their alphabet/word equivalent onto the keyboard, and even leveraged on technologies like predictive text to get around this issue smile.gif

without the keyboard, how on earth are you suppose to get things on the computer to do your work or just any basic thing. maybe you could use a virtual keyboard and solely use a mouse, but that would be hellishly slow and inconvenient. so don't you feel glad you have a working keyboard, and especially if it's mechanical (and assuming you wisely picked an appropriate switch e.g. NOT BLACKS) then you can type comfortably and surely as well nod.gif

this mkb i am using for many years was a good investment. haven't had the need to replace it. this is why it was worth getting dye sublimate/double shot keycaps, and mkb to begin with. even things like the default spacebar has very little shine due to wear (this is why u should get good plastic keycaps to avoid issues down the road). My only gripe is that because it's an earlier model for ducky, some things eventually got ironed out, like the power cable, i hear that the later releases had better cable management. the earlier iterations the usb cable although removable, had 1 flaw that the hole for the cable was too thin, so it was overly a tight fitting. but other than that, it was fine.

i bought a new hand held blower which i use for light cleaning my keyboard now. but after a long while i will dissasemble then do a full clean up. but this makes keeping the mkb clean much simpler for any sort of debris that falls through the keyboard most part smile.gif

nice; i guess i should get one too. for now i'm still using a brush haha

yes full cleanups are necessary when time comes. i will also do it when i wanna store full builds in boxes.

the most common cleanup job for me is still washing key caps, and brushing off dusts from bare bones when i replace them.
*
i just remove the caps and dump it into a bucket of water with some cleaning fluid and let it soak. then come back and dry it all up using a fan and dry cloth.

if you go to shopee, seems they also have mini usb handheld vacuums (with examples for using on keyboard). but i went for a blower instead, because i also use this to clean out dust from my pc. a blower works better than a vacuum when trying to remove dust from your pc case i find smile.gif
