Tried my hand at balancing stab wires from the stock plate mount stabs on the tecware phantom elite. Although it helped a bit but the longer keys (spacebar in particular) still sinks a little and makes a tapping sound when softly tapping on either side. I assume it's because I'm not balancing the wires properly but I wanted to know if it's worth it to swap out the stock stabs for something else. Seems pretty hard to find any plate mount stabs in the first place with the cherry ones being sold out almost everywhere leaving only OEM brands. If only the phantom elite pcb accepts screw-in or pcb mount stabs...

QUOTE(horns @ Jul 8 2020, 04:34 PM) you can try putting a small piece of fabric tape on the top part of both wire tips, then lube them with plastic-safe grease, like permatex, or superlube. i did the same to my space bar. there is no more tinkling sound even if i tapped very lightly on either side. Oh I never thought of doing this, I'll give this a try when I have time

QUOTE(niakulah @ Jul 9 2020, 05:22 PM) Yeah, I was searching for original cherry plate mount stabs as well before I assembled my board. Only place in stock I saw was Zeal. https://zealpc.net/collections/switches/pro...ted-stabilizersAbout RM120 for shipping! Yeah, definitely am not ready to pay as much for shipping compared to the product which might not even end up making a huge difference. Rather experiment with quirky mods and save the money for the eventual next keyboard/build

Just wondering for the ptfe/fabric tape mod at the tips of stab wires, how thick/how many rounds should I go around the stab wire or is that different from stab to stab and I have to trial and error to get it right?

For the members who have experience doing the holee mod on stabs, I was wondering what material (tape/band aid/etc) you use to do the mod, and what worked the best (if you tried using several types of materials).

QUOTE(niakulah @ Apr 29 2021, 01:17 PM) I've tried fabric type bandaid and cloth tape. I prefer the cloth tape. Easier to handle and sticks better. And it's available in many different colours if that's your thing. Something like this: https://s.lazada.com.my/s.XtRx2Thanks for this suggestion! Found a roll of cloth tape at home and it works pretty well, don't hear any wire rattle anymore. I do feel some resistance/scratch but I think that's from me not using enough lube on the stab housing and slider rather than the tape itself but will keep experimenting to see what feels the best
