hmm.gif

i too have customized my mkb but not to that extent. at most i just customize my keycaps for better ones like signatureplastics doubleshot group buy, a mooglekit (this is a kit i helped give the initial idea. it's purpose is to have the custom keycaps for the missing ones that have a matching color as another set of keycaps from a donor OLD mkb that did not have keycaps that would fit a modern mkb for some of the keycaps. hence why you needed this kit made as a supplement), and some dye sublimated keycaps (these use dyse that are very impervious to wearing out, and gives a different look compared to doubleshots). i also got some led windowed keycaps, because some of the switches had lighting components so the normal keycap wouldn't be nice for those, hence i needed ones that had windows on them which i had to source from classic donor keyboards.

smile.gif

also it's nice if your mkb supports NKRO, although most people would be ok even if it's just 6KRO. But if you have a NKRO option available, why not.

Then some people have preferences for the led lighting bling, which is fine. But then you usually have to choose between that and doubleshot keycaps. Personally i prefer just quality doubleshot and/or dye sublimated keycaps with good contrast that is durable to usage over long periods of time :}

I've used my mkb for many years already now, and i haven't feel the need to replace any of the switches just yet :} this is also why you get a mkb. Not only is it comfortable to use, but it can last for quite a long time. So the costs justify it in the end. But thats not to say you can't haggle for a good deal. Heck this girl spent RM500 and got a custom mkb, which seems pretty good. although i personally can't live without the numpad. If you do plenty of data entry kind of jobs involving numbers, that numpad is pretty important for speed typing.

one development for the keyboard i'm most interested is the optical light sensors for helping register key actuations. things got even more responsive and accurate with that sort of addition. but that said i don't feel the need to make any new purchase. so hopefully by the time i do need a change, prices will come down sweat.gif

Fuh, the godfather of LYN's mech kb club is here. notworthy.gif

And ya, as a fellow mkb oldie, I'm kind of cynical with some developments of mkb industry these few years.

One thing i particularly not fond of is the trend of "they made a gasket mount KB, so we must make one too", it's the new "RGB" of mkb industry.

Another thing I'm particularly shocked after previous hiatus of 4-6 years is now there's almost thousands of switches out there, which is kind of uncalled for (do we really need yet another switch which is POTENTIALLY better than existing one?), but well the more the competition, the better it is.

Lastly, I'm saddened to find that Costar stabilisers (which is much unwelcomed as ever) are pretty much getting extinct in last few years thanks to the blooming growth of mkb industry from China. Last time their OEMs are 50/50 between Costar and Cherry stabs; but nowadays almost all of them shifted towards full Cherry stabs already.

been busy with other things which arguably is more addicting sweat.gif

i agree with u to some extent. although i advocated for mkbs, i'm a rather frugal spender. i buy 1 good mkb and thats it (i say that but i did buy 1 vintage mkb, as a collectible xd... which i do use on some occassions during my troubleshoots). thats all i ever tried to endorse. get a good mkb that can last u a good long time, so that initial high price point will pay off in the long run. so there is no reason to go for cheaper rubber domes unless you are really stretched for cash in the short term console.gif

do u rely need to get a new mkb or parts for each year to follow trends? personally i don't do that. then again i'm not the type of person that follows the crowd, i do my own thing at my own leisure and pace sweat.gif

nope. like i said everything on my table right now is empty and cable-free, so i rather have wireless. lag from the wake up and all it's not a big issue for me.

i bought a gaming table with 2 side gromets for better cable manegement. so i can fit my mouse and keyboard wires through these holes :} very convenient.

If you got like an ikea wooden table you could probly mod and do your own gromet with the right drill type hmm.gif

i think you can probly get a cheap mkb using the same amount.

but if you're rich and got money to splurge, then that's a different story sweat.gif

this is exactly why i started the mmkbc. watch the youtube, you'll get it. this is basically the situation right now smile.gif that said the example provided was the lowest you can go for mkb (afaik), but judging by the reviews, i would spend a bit more on a product that is more likely to be longer lasting (it would still be reasonably priced for most people wanting to get a mkb)

I just built a feker ik75. Great for the price.
1. Dont expect it flexi soft typing experience. Although, with the included PC plate and no standoffs, theres a very slight improvement there.
2. North facing led. Using oem profile now, and I confirm that I still prefer cherry.
3. Very muted with all the foam, but thats fine for me cause I use silent switches.
4. Biggest problem with this kit is the software. Cant change any layer 1 keys. Cant even add printscreen as its not in the options. Ended up using winaltS. If you want macros, you have to sacrifice a key on layer 0. I requested a json or hex file to see if i can sideload that into via. No reply yet.
5. Happy to report that fps gaming on 2.4kHz is feasible. So far experienced 2 split second lag in game. If wired is 100, on 2.4 this is a 98.

I think its good for the price only if you use it as is without changing the layout too much.

asus getting in on the mkb action with their rog brand heh ph34r.gif

looks nice, but in terms of bang for buck, you can get a decent enuff mkb for half the price and spend that money else where on your pc components, maybe like increased budget for a better monitor, graphics card or cpu.

but if you can afford it, and you want something nice, this looks good, but maybe you can get something for the same price or less perhaps hmm.gif

Logitech’s new MX keyboard brings mechanical switches to the masses
https://www.engadget.com/logitech-mx-mechan...-070109417.html

QUOTE
Logitech has announced the MX Master 3S mouse and two wireless MX Mechanical keyboards. The mouse is the update to the uberpopular MX Master 3, while the MX Mechanical keyboards are totally new products that promise to leverage Logitech’s expertise in gaming keyboards.

The MX Mechanical keyboard comes in a full size and a compact 75% variant known as the MX Mechanical Mini. Both look to combine the strengths of mechanical keyboards with the productivity-focused features of the company’s MX Keys membrane keyboard.

Mechanical keyboards have been a growing trend over the past few years, evolving beyond their roots in PC gaming and DIY keyboard modding cultures. But their arrival in Logitech’s MX line of peripherals feels like a watershed moment for the trend.

“There is a growing community of software developers who fell in love with mechanical keyboards when they started playing games, and now they want the same feeling of precision and control with their professional desktop keyboard,” said Tolya Polyanker, head of creativity and productivity for the MX Series at Logitech. “MX Mechanical combines the best of both — Logitech’s gaming keyboard expertise with MX Master Series signature experiences.”

Both the MX Mechanical and Mechanical Mini feature 19mm low-profile “Tactile Quiet (brown)” switches that Logitech says make them the company’s quietest mechanical keyboard ever. However, for those who prefer clicky (blue) or linear (red) switches, those will be offered in select markets.

Environmentally, the MX Master 3 is made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic (27% for the graphite model and 22% for the gray). Other features are the same as the Master 3, such as Logi Bolt, which allows connectivity to up to three different devices.

Pricing for the MX Master 3S is $99, same as the MX Master 3. The MX Mechanical will go for $170 while the Mini will go for $150. All three devices will be available this month.

Given Logitech’s past success with its productivity-focused MX Master series, the MX Master 3S will likely continue that trend of producing the best mice. The MX Mechanical series will also likely please many who prefer the feel of a mechanical keyboard.

is that the cheapest available mkb? confused.gif seems to be a noisy clicky switch, but at that price i don't mind as long as u don't require ur mkb to be silent e.g. office setting

in comparison a gaming rubberdome keyboard roughly around RM14.90 So you telling me u can't bump up ur budget to get a mkb over rubberdome at this price point gap? come on sweat.gif Topres are lovely (tried before, no issues with them), but i can't imagine sticking to the old rubber dome now that mkbs are so cheap these days smile.gif

My brother bought (and in the end passed to me) one of those budget cheapo dunno what brand models. Nice enough to use at the start (got knobs and everything and sub RM100 price) but by the time I got it already got bouncing keys etc. QC probably non existant. My current RK68 is SO much sturdier and reliable.

agreed. if u got a bigger budget, obviously get better. but the lowest i'd go would probly be something like this, rather than get a rubberdome. to my thinking it will last much longer than rubberdome and be a much better experience it's switches, not yucky rubber when u actuate.

i can still recall my logitech rubberdome gaming keyboard g15 i think it was called. it was horrible and overpriced. not going back to that ever puke.gif
