I think it is as good as a mere mortal can get, or it is difficult to get as well, I heard there are limited units.
The most intensive things I done is rendering 4k 60fps video, I still haven't have to deal with 10 bit color at this point.

Anyway, does the 3080ti support 10bit color?

threadripper,
64gb ram 3600 c18 (gaming and since infinity fabric in amd processors don't benefit from speeds higher than 3600)
or 64gb ram 2666 ecc (workstation),
graphic card wait next gen since current gen very boring,
samsung pro nvme ssd for OS and application, buy more than one to setup raid 0 for shits and giggles,
xfp/sfp/sfp+ nic as long as 10Gb/s, a good SAN setup for long term storage with 10Gb/s connection to pc,
cooling just put pc inside aircon room 24/7 can, custom water cooling loop also can, but custom water loop need to be maintained regularly

other parts like mobo, casing and psu as long as reliable (read reviews) and up to spec just pick what design you like, not going to matter a lot unless you're planning to break world record in overclocking

for monitors I personally own an LG 27GL850, but ultrawides and/or semi-profesional series like dell ultrasharp series also interesting

keyboards nowadays plenty of choices, even with custom keycaps and layouts accessible on to buy from internet

mouse is the one thing I'm not sure of, manufacturers say rated to last for 10 million clicks, but after a few months already start double clicking

Cool insights, I see what items I can get bit by bit.

Who makes good monitor these days, I am still using EIZO for a while.

EIZO is great for workstations, not so much for gaming. These days you'd need to insist on minimum IPS panel with 144hz refresh rates.

Admittedly I don't game that much, outside of office work and trading, probably photo and video editing, music is what I do.
Good to know nonetheless.

for desktop usage a refresh rate of higher than the usual 60hz is really pretty awesome. Your cursor and browsing experience improves five fold from the smoothness.

here the best pc spec use by The Godfather Of linux

Linus Torvalds is the most famous programmer in the world, father of the Linux operating system, and maker of the near-universal Git distributed version control system. He also builds his own developer workstation and recently upgraded his PC to a speedy AMD Threadripper 3970x-based processor. But a computer is more than a CPU.

In an exclusive conversation, Torvalds revealed what he used in his latest programming PC. Total price? About $3,500, which, for a high-end desktop computer, is darn cheap.

I think a 3970X is close to 2k USD, more than half the price of his build, he cut budget on not using ECC RAM, also doesn't use independent graphics card.
Probably good for what he is doing.

Normally, I don't go for the high end rigs. I use Linux so it makes sense to use hardware one or two generations back so that I can be sure of good hardware support.

But basically for me, choose a motherboard and upgrade until I cannot upgrade anymore. i.e socket change or capacitor ageing killing the motherboard. New graphics card as long as it fits and I feel there is going to be a performance increase.

For me, continuous, incremental upgrades are more practical than buying everything at once.

I only upgrade 2-3 years once. A generation improvement not worth. Need at least 2

Ryzen is a bit of a game changer like since 2 years ago.
Another way of thinking is to relegate the old rig as a second/backup computer and have a totally new one.

I am starting this topic to see what people is using or is available in the market that is considered cutting edge for consumers.

Not so simple, say AMD 3990X is the most expensive but it is slower for normal users even than 3800X.
Maybe 3950X have same performance as 3900X too in many situations.
