Anything with hotspot / tethering omit (dont have ) is a big turn off.
I rather go for non-unlimited with plenty of data quota which allows hotspot without limitation.

I have tried Unlimited on Umobile with hotspot but need good ol' fashion hacking which yeah, abit troublesome and doesn't work well with Android connect to Android.

Hotspot WITHOUT limitation? Hmmm... I wonder which plan is this...RM59 #BEBAS with 12-month contract is it....
*
Hi Bro,
I hope you dont mix the name up smile.gif . The one you mention RM 59 is the Postpaid version. (Promo price)
unifi Mobileā„¢ 99 at RM59

That one need to subscribe to separate Hotspot add on; The free Hotspot only last until end of MCO 9th June.

What I meant was those which deduct directly from the quota when use hotspot.
Plenty of Examples:
- Unifi Prepaid - Bebas2Enjoy Unlimited data plans
- Yoodo
- DIGI Prepaid
- DIGI Postpaid , not the Infinite (Unlimited) version
- Umobile Hero Postpaid (not the Unlimited version)
- Yes 4G prepaid 1+1 Data add on (Non Unlimited plan)

Basically telcos dont like their customers to hotspot on Unlimited plans.

You know where is that gaming server located? I can help to get the results...

You only have order from the Duck.
I have order from The Sith devil.gif

Presenting ...Umobile "The Sith" laugh.gif

Okey here's mine (technically belongs to my wife, but anyway)
To make it a fair run, I run the speedtest from the exact server you chosen earlier.
But the not so fair part - The Data plan is on a MBWEEK plan , not GX plan..sorry brows.gif
So you know what that means...no throttle/cap sweat.gif

But previously when I tested on GX12 plan, i could hit above Umobile's speedcap.
Dont ask me why . I need to find back the screenshot. Okay..enough talking, lets get the Dyno results .

Thanks a lot for the report.

Installed the app but I'm not too sure which one is the LTE only.

You can set LTE / TD-SCDMA and it will stay 4g until you reboot

Hotlink still dare to say "Truly Unlimited".

Abuse of the words "truly" and "unlimited" and insulting the intelligence of their potential customers.
*
Exactly. If its in the US, they could be sued for misleading the consumer.
But in Malaysia, lol, if someone reports to KDNHEP.. NATO. cool2.gif
Then its back to Maxis with their - "We reserve the rights to change the Terms and Condition without notice" etc.

Because Maxis feels "I'm the boss".

Any reliable site to check coverage?most telco own overage site look not reliable and not accurate too.
*
Another method is to use CellMapper combine with Network Cell Info Lite
to check your area for the nearest tower.

Cell Mapper to identify roughly the tower location , and the Network Cell Info app to measure signal strenght.

I use this to hunt down the tower by noting the enb-LCID first and then note the signal strength, kinda like paranormal activity hunting laugh.gif

Once your signal strength gets stronger and stronger (provided its locked to the same enB-LCID) then you have found the tower.

Example is a DIGI tower I found. By luck its because the fibre termination box gave out the clue.

Most base towers are secretive; meaning they wont even put a label - Maxis , DIGI, Celcom, etc.

I'm from digi, how to call to hotlink call center for toll free?
I dont want call to their 1300 as got charges
*
Live chat. Followed by FB , though slower response.

They have been this arrogant , because they want to reduce the number of customers calling into their Hotline and screw their CS.

to me - customer service is important. Yes Maxis and so far DIGI has done a good job, but for Maxis they are abit arrogant at times.

Anyone tried using the HUP with mobile wifi modem yet?
*
Its considered Hotspot / Tethering. And you will need to buy their hotspot add on, Unless your modem is modified to bypass their detection.
Which is kinda of a turn off to me - Not because I want unlimited, but I want hotspot capability, without forking extra.

So far , only and only Unifi Mobile Prepaid with their #Bebas2Enjoy unlimited data plans, allow hotspot without extras. But they claim - Only limited time offer.

Just ported in one of my number (actually is wife use, but reg under my name) from Digi to Maxis.

Just only acivated today and redeemed the Free 1GB Productivity.

but when i did a speedtest,i cant believe what im seeing.
less than 1mbps on 4g.

(Update:)
And 4 mbps average on Testmy.net speed test (Tried Japan and UK server, same results).
Tried already with or without VPN.

Don't tell me Maxis restrict speed for this free 1Gb.
Cause Digi , Yoodo and Umobile doesnt restrict speed on Free 1gb productivity.
Anyone can confirm this?

are those sites part of the productivity lists?
*
Erm..nope its not listed so it can access. YouTube is supposed to be in the list of restriction but I haven't tried.
To update:

I tried running with VPN (Server in India) and run Testmy.net with India server , I got 6Mbps+ max, with or without VPN.

Then I tried Speed test , connect to Maxis Subang .
Latency is excellent but download speed..around 2Mbps.
Another note: I haven't check signal level but it was sufficiently high, 4 out of 5 bars.

This really surprise me. I haven't even subscribe to any unlimited data plan.

and Im expecting Maxis to do as well as Digi or even better than Umobile. Yet first impression and I'm already felt as though like a speed cap.

Tried early this morning, 8am, i ran Speedtest and Testmy.net
Still running on the Free 1GB Productivity.

In my area , on Speedtest, I managed up to 10Mbps spike (max speed before it drops off) before finalizing at 9.2Mbps
Testmy.net yield around 8.3Mbps max. Between 6-8Mbps Average.

Conclusion? I am far away from the tower. nearly 1KM sad.gif

Here is the speedtest when i stand right next to the tower, not real world test.

user posted image

Another tower test, also next to it.

FYI, when I previously tested with Umobile next to a tower, I managed higher speeds.

My short answer will be congestion + inteference (SINR) in your area. Mine is also getting random 12-36Mbps download on any regular day. If I goto other areas, I can get 60-80Mbps download.

But how do you know you are connected to the same tower you mention ? Do you have your phone showing connected to a particular Cell ID tower or eNodeB ID ?Ā  hmm.gif

Hi there,
Yes usually I check and monitor what enode ID it frequently uses via Network Cell Info Lite app.
Then I use that eNodeB ID and search on Cellmapper to locate the estimated location.

Then later I take a drive to go hunt for that specific tower.
And when the dBm signal shows a strong signal then I know I'm at the right tower. Kinda like using a metal detector on a treasure hunt.

But what I cannot understand is why the BSC would select a further tower if there is a tower located nearer to my current location (home).
Not just Maxis. Other telcos also exhibit such behaviour.

can u do speedtest with jitter ?
https://testtmspeed.speedtestcustom.com/

my guest maxis is low power tower for smaller  area. umobile is big tower for wide area. does umobile tower is the new built  2019/2020 coverage extension update ?
smartphone AI + tower AI  blush.gif  strong signal, high power,  less user  something like that
*
Did a speedtest again this morning at home. Jitter is extremely good. Recording only 4-6ms.
And speeds of 26-28Mbps. Good.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Did a comparison with Yoodo in hand, if the Celcom tower is very near , the top speed is extremely good, but once gets further and further, it drops more than Maxis.

What cute_boboi explains is also correct ; sector angle of the tower is important.
And thats why my Hotlink keeps tagging onto the "further" tower.

Because when I walk into certain part of my house outdoor, it shifts to the "closer" tower.
And i know where is that "closer" tower location.

Maxis AI Network working as intended.  rclxm9.gif

After going through Maxis's explanation on this Maxis AI, its not about optimizing the BTS tower's power output for end-to-end user.
More towards optimizing their backhaul / backbone traffic . Which is also a good thing.

Its explained here in words and video:
How Maxis A.I. Network Works

and also here:
Frequently Asked Questions

It even says here:
The most advanced network that uses Artificial Intelligence to optimise network traffic.

notice the Low dowload but high upload. Technically it looks like AI Network's job but let's say this is due to tower congestion, even on Maxis.

P.s - this is not a complain. Just sharing.

Chrono-Trigger and Zaryl,

Right now, what I did for my Hotlink, is to subscribe to Unlimited 35.

And then when I want to use Hotspot, I redeem the Free 1GB Productivity.
This somewhat opens the Hotspot option for free, and anything listed in the "Non productivity" or excluded website, deducts in the Unlimited Bucket thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif
YT, FB ,Torrent movies, etc .

(Shhh...dont tell Hotlink laugh.gif )
