Hi All, i'm currently looking to buy sound bar for my TV - Xiaomi Smart TV 4S 43inch, will use it for netflix mostly, was looking at these 2.
Understand that both is different level and price, but Sony one seem to have more feature (Dolby Atmos and etc) compare to Sonos Beam, and once you started Sonos life cycle you will tempt to upgrade and buy more speaker, which will spend much more down the road. Sony seem to be 1 off buy and just live with the quality as what you pay and what you get.
Was wondering anyone who owned either one of this can share their experiences.

QUOTE(ohman @ May 29 2020, 12:24 PM) why soundbar? is it space constrain? or to fit into your living room design? my living round is very small, looking for a compact and wireless option, budget wise is RM2.3k and below.

QUOTE(Jay Chua CC @ May 29 2020, 12:26 PM) i feel sonos too much hard sell. Bombarding their products to trash influencers making them simply make rubbish reviews. Good input dude, i see all the review keep saying the sound quality is superb, and ask to upgrade more, get sub, get speaker and mention more on the apps.

QUOTE(vectorian @ May 29 2020, 12:46 PM) Quite curious, with your high budget why didn't you invest in a better TV instead? When i looking for TV, i never consider about soundbar and audio enhancements. As the tv fit my requirement and budget, 43inch is the max i can go with my living room size. But now when i watch Netflix everyday, the sound is ok for me, then i start thinking about upgrade the audio, to experience surround, atmos and etc...

why i choose these 2 model is basically:
Sony HT-X8500: Dolby Atmos, price & compact size Sonos Beam: Brand, review, price (of coz sony is cheaper) & compact size.

QUOTE(Zer0 c00L @ May 29 2020, 12:59 PM) try a pair of bookshelf speakers maybe? imho they outperform soundbars twice the price, but if you have space constraint then it might not be viable Yes space is one of issue, and book shell speaker need more setup, right?

QUOTE(popopi @ May 29 2020, 01:03 PM) Any soundbar will win the TV build in speaker hands down... since u already Xiao Mi TV... the Xiao Mi Soundbar is a good combination.. i saw before there are special Mi connectivity for easy use together... correct me if I wrong here... but Sony sound quality will be a notch higher compared to Mi... but not as good as the Apparently this Xiaomi soundbar is quite low quality, is not smart speaker, hence not addition connectivity, you need to manual adjust the volume on the sound bar itself or else connect to bluetooth which the sound quality is not good.

QUOTE(zerorating @ May 29 2020, 01:23 PM) for 2 speaker setup, not really. if you want simplicity(all-in-one setup) and doesnt care about upgradibility, can consider edifier s2000pro or even s3000pro. if you want simple passive setup, you can could try below. dac -SMSL Sanskrit 10th SK10 MKII (110usd) amp - SMSL SA300 (140usd) speaker - any passive speaker that you preferred thanks for the suggestion, i'm not audiophile, this seem like another level for me i just want simple setup and foolproof set up for me.

QUOTE(zerorating @ May 29 2020, 02:05 PM) then just get edifier s2000pro or s3000pro. cucuk toslink cable from your tv and connect the primary speaker with its secondary (wireless for s3000pro) and you are done. the only downside vs your soundbar solution were the lack of dolby atmos, no subwoofer (but this is something that the bass driver could handle anyway) ,and much bulkier setup. but for speaker, alot of case, bigger speaker will always provide better audio quality. QUOTE(cHaRsIeWpAu^^ @ May 29 2020, 02:07 PM) cant even do 2.0 bookshelf speaker? soundbar really cannot and doesn't worth the money, unless you really really limited space. i mainly use it to watch netflix, hence i looking for more convenience setup and also i choose this 2 is because of the HDMI ARC feature, which i would like to setup once and just click and play movie whenever i watch movie.

QUOTE(chineu6 @ Sep 29 2020, 10:18 AM) Guys, I have a couple of questions to ask. I'm planning to get a Xiaomi sound bar, initially was thinking of getting Redmi one but Redmi soundbar doesn't has optical input. I'm using Samsung 55" UA55H6300 TV. 1. If I were to hook up Xiaomi sound bar, will the TV internal speaker still works? 2. Can I use TV remote to control the volume of the sound bar since Xiaomi sound bar doesn't comes with wireless remote control? Thank you To be honest depends on your budget lar, sound system setup can be range from 100+ to 100K+, everyone will suggest you this and that, but what is budget and how much you willing to spend, of cause always is the more you spend the better quality you will get lar, not matter is soundbar, bookshelf speaker, standing speaker or home theater set, all boil down to what is your budget, then the rest can try to suggest you the best option within that prince range.

QUOTE(chineu6 @ Sep 29 2020, 04:25 PM) Thanks for everyone's advice and suggestions. Reason why I'm thinking of getting a sound bar is that my old Samsung TV internal speaker woofer has slightly broken and literally I just want to get a speaker that serves the purpose of projecting the sound out, that's it. Furthermore, I seldom listen to music and stuffs, so I'm not planning to invest much on this. If you want budget, just get the xiaomi sound bar, but no HDMI connection, means you can't use your TV remote to control the volume, you need to get up from your sofa, walk to the sound bar and change the volume, not sure if this is the same case if you connect via bluetooth to your TV. If not go shoppe look for sound bar that have HDMI ARC, then you can use your TV remote to control the volume.
