Hello all,

My recent ZTE model, a stock modem router from TM has been struck by lightning and now, look for a modem router dual band (2.5ghz and 5ghz) which support Unifi Lite 10mpbs and lightning protection ( dont want to same incident happen again)
If possible less than RM140..

btw is it worth it to get a dual band for 10mbps ????

Thanks all appreciate it.

ur budget not enough for what u r asking...
increase the budget or drop down the expectation..

TD-W9960 is support vdsl , and within your budget , but no AC...
or just simply increase the budget, grab that VR400 , definite better than TD-W9960 in every aspect...
would recommend vr400 over td-w9960 .

p/s: btw, stick to the budget is always a good idea..

hi, u keep saying that your wifi signal is not stable, so why? did u really look into it?
Perhaps u should install any WiFi Analyser‎ app on your phone, and see if your neighbourhood is too crowd for 2.4G... 2.4G is already over-crowded nowadays.. if that so, then increase the budget and grab the one with AC and beamforming support is your only choice...
and, ur devices need to support the AC and beamforming too..

Hello, yup i have installed wifi analyzer, and i have change the channel to a less congested one... actually tm technician have come and check, the lan cable is fine, and he recommend me that to get a new modem router as my wifi is not stable, as my current one is 3-4 years old.....
Too bad that laptop does not support ac. only my smartphone does... so i dont think it is a wise idea to get a ac modem router ??
What 2.4ghz modem router would you recommend which has a stable wifi signal.. ( that is the main reason i am switching ~~ ) smile.gif)
Thanks

no, 2.4G is a hit or miss thing, the best u could is adjust/replace the antenna or change ur device location ....
had better move on to 5G and beamforming..

If your neighbourhood is less congestion.
u could give Asus DSL-N16 or TPLINK TD-W9960 a try...
IMHO they r in same par...

Let me share some of my experience, using Xiaomi router with dual band router around RM110. Router sit on the living room, so over there can use 5Ghz signal no problem, can access my max 50mbps Unifi at full speed. But when go to different section of the house, the 5Ghz signal drop significantly, due to wall and other stuff. I have a room is 2 wall behind the router, the signal become extremely weak. So my usage now is when near the living room, use 5Ghz, at room, use 2.4Ghz. So 5Ghz don't magically made everything become better. My 2.4Ghz though, even when it sucks, still get around 30mbps, stream video, surf net no problem, but if after a wall, the latency become too slow for online gaming, so for game, I have to go near living room.

Hope this can give you some idea how 5Ghz expectation.

but the modem of TS is already kapus, and TS need a modem with router that budget about RM150 (but TS want AC as well drool.gif )
different scenario..

so , the choice is obviously in this case either get one within the budget but no AC, or increase the budget..

Asus DSL-N16 or TPLINK TD-W9960, you mean the specs are the same with each other ?  the price different for both is RM20 (Asus slightly more expensive)
TPLINK TD-W9960,  i read that the wifi signal is unstable ...
for Asus DSL-N16 is it the same as mention in the website below ?? RT-N16 (streaymx)
RT-N16

ps. It seem like all the 2.4ghz wifi signal is not stable.

Thanks

I meant I already cherry pick 2 among numerous brand within ur budget, u just simply random pick one and use it..if unfortunately, u got a faulty item , u can simply return it and choose another brand. RM20 is not much... and the general speaking, the GUI of ASUS is abit better...
both r entry level product, please don't compare them with expensive product..
btw, it would get the job done, without them u cannot connect to internet, so still worth the money la...

p/s: u can always google negative comment from any wifi product , coz who doesn't have issue would never try to make a post with it.

I think what you counter is common, but not related to 2.4Ghz. I used to have 2 ASUS wifi router, when both running on 2.4 Ghz, the cheaper version run sucks. Do some research then only realize even on router there are processor and RAM as well, like a PC. Sometimes those parts are too "low" performance to handle too many connection at the same times. If I connect my TV, few phones, few laptop same the same time to my cheap ASUS, it would lag so bad that I have to reset the router.

Another experience is from a very old D-Link router, not too sure about the hardware inside but the software sucks. It would hang itself if someone use torrent to download movie.

So sometimes look at the box hard to tell good or bad, read more user feedback and hope for the best, hahaaa.

nod. that's why I recommended RM250 tier.. general speaking, a bit better cpu and ram ...and hopefully everything butter smooth out of the box, then the extra RM100 is a well spent.. thumbsup.gif
