Consider install soundproof ceiling.

Sorry but to say that you can't expect others to change for you, if you feel highly disturbed by sound from above, should find own solution not rely on others to do it for you ...

You may think "is the guy staying above fault, why i have to pay for it" ... but do note the guy above is not bothered by the noise, you are.

Well... It is your right to have your opinion. May I ask:
1. Do you live in a condo/apartment/flat?
2. If yes for #1, are you living on top floor?

Help me to understand this correctly

U can afford the penthouse by selling off current unit

Means the market price for current unit has increased compared to when u purchased it, to the price level of the penthouse price

But, doesnt the price of penthouse appreciate/increate/go up as well?
*
Bro... not all types of unit get the same incremental appreciation rate. Penthouse units do enjoy their price increased but:
My current unit type, current price is more than 2x of original price I bought.
Penthouse does not flip 2x, maybe 1.5x to 1.7x of its original price.

Of course I do take account of my current salary.

Many people think landed is a solution but it is not.

Landed unless you live in comer lot or bangalow, chances are you will hear noises from your left and right neighbour.
*
You are right, due diligence on both side of neighbour need to be done and check whether they are having behavioural or thuggish issues.
But if you are buying a new house from developer, it will be your luck.

Btw, why din't you get those corner units for condo?

Those whereby your unit is standalone and no neighbor sticking to your unit left/right
*
Most so called corner unit condos designed in a way that staggered like ladder. I don't like the above unit throw rubbish, cigarette butts into my balcony... haha

Actually, serious answer here. If you can afford it, build a second ceiling for your unit and insulate the f*** out of it. Will drastically reduce the noise.
*
Sometimes just insulating the ceiling does not help.
The noise/vibration travels along the wall as well... I am not joking. I can feel the vibration when that guy dropped something heavy on his floor. Maybe a dumb bell or kettle bell.

Hi, I can hear footstep noises from my neighbour above starting from 6am everyday. Does install false ceiling help in this case?
*
It is not really helpful. The noise especially footstep (or vibration?) will travel along your wall vertically.

Yes, I have this problem too. Especially the kid dragging the chair...
*
Hopefully not midnight and above the room you sleep.
For me, you drag the chair during day time is tolerable.

Whoops, almost a year later and I see this thread is still alive lol. You're still facing an issue with your neighbors or it's settled already?

For me, still facing issues with the neighbors above and next door. Already got into an argument with both of them because they cannot control their unruly devil children and allowing them to run around until midnight, banging and hitting the floor and walls. Offered them floor mats but they refused saying they know how to control their kids. Idiotic people.
*
The couple with 1 kid above my unit seems not always living at same place. But occasionally I still heard footsteps but no longer thumping all the time.
Most important is only occur during day time which is fine for me.

Still praying for no more inconsiderate unit owner living above... sweat.gif

So what happened in the end?

Coz like in my case unfortunately, there's nothing I can do but just tolerate.
My upstairs neigbour macam dinosaur walking, running and hopping. It's so audible that I can record the noise on my phone. But when lodge this to the MO, they said they did had not committed any wrong.
*
You may lodge as public nuisance to the local city council if mgmt does not have to step in and help

Having a similar nuisance here. The kids upstairs non stop running , jumping, dragging furniture, knocking the floor.

If I sit quietly at home without noise-cancelling earphone, will get shock by the sudden stomping every few minutes. Waken up by the noise as well during the weekends
*
Bro, if the time passed 11pm, you can log police report for public nuisance
