Need some inputs,

I have a 2018 Perodua Axia in White and was involved in an accident around 1 year ago which required me to replace my hatchback bootdoor. Fast forward about a year the paint on the bootdoor is turning yellowish while the rest of my car (the parts which are all OLDER) is actually still white, wth? I've been told that the car which was made in Rawang have been treated with some sort of chemical while the new bootdoor at the body/paint shop was not thus it turned yellowish faster? But accident replacement should be Perodua original parts is it not?

Any advise is appreciated. smile.gif

The yellowish should be due to the clear coat / lacquer itself. After a while under strong UV sunlight probably the subpar clear coat has turned yellowish.

Most paint repairs have a few years warranty against such problems, perhaps you could consult with the place that did the repair work if its covered under warranty?

It's the paint quality/viscosity, skill and coating matter. Paint itself is a chemical.

i think this is a lesson for TS to not buy white
there is no metallic white, there is only solid white and pearl white
white is the most difficult colour to take care...especially in malaysian weather

u need to wax it religiously every 6 month to keep it's shine else it's gonna turn yellowish very soon
that's why i never buy white

Likely the authorized dealer brought it to some outside shop and gave a cheap paint and even want to save on the clear coat.
First it will turn yellowish, later the pain will slowly dry and start to crack and peel. I had this experience before also repaired by a P2 authorized centre.
You might as well remove the paint and get it respray by a bodyshop outside. One panel should cost around 300-350.

Its because the paint that the repair shop used is lower quality and not the same that was used by Perodua factory. It is not Perodua's fault.

Apparently the warranty was only 6 months after the repairs

Curious, cause its an authorised Perodua Paint/body shop, I would assume it uses the same paint and same quality but apparently not. I mean its not like its a random third party paint shop outside.

It's not about the colour but the body shop that did the repaint did not apply a layer of clear coat on top of the basecoat or colour spray.
Without this layer, the basecoat is bound to dry and later peel no matter what colour is it.

I don't know about the quality of their paint now but I have a Myvi that is 10years old.
I can say the quality of their paint is very good.
It is better than my Honda HRV.
You will know when you clean and detail the car. Dirt is easier to be removed on the Myvi.
Compare it with another Honda TMO 10 years also, the Myvi paint beat it.

So I think generally, likely even now, their paint should still be good.

its the workshop/panel you go to repair your car, they use cheap stuffs.

you should go to perodua accident recovery centre to fix your car no matter what in an accident, they will use genuine paint and parts.

Perodua authorised repaint shop, meaning it is not Perodua's own bodywork workshop. Third parties are known to cut corners.

What past is past. Just remember not to bring to third party workshop for repairs.

Moving forward, if you would like to repair the paint issue, you will need to redo the clear coat. Assuming the yellowish is due to the clear coat, get a paintshop to sand off the clear coat then apply a new layer of good quality clear coat. It will involve polishing and waxing as well. Probably will cost you around RM300.

The original factory paint used by p2 already mix with clear coat, this after paint it looked so shiny one. Not many can offer such spray paint services, only the professional certified painter or those with experience can offer such service.
