I'm planning to connect two routers via LAN-to-LAN at my house.

I'm currently using Maxis standard router TP-Link Archer C5v.

I can't replace this router as there is no other routers can support Maxis VoIP (that I'm aware of hmm.gif)

I'm well aware of the method but need some clarifications.

1) Will performance be affected if both routers are different specs? Let's say main router is wireless AC and the secondary is wireless AX.

2) Does USB sharing works if USB drive is connected to the secondary router.

Thanks sifu icon_question.gif notworthy.gif

What is objective? Bridge? Or one router connected to lan of other router? Dual subnet?

Just to bridge both routers to expand the network

1. Both ac and ax speeds are below gigabit. So no. Obviously you will only get ax speeds when the devices are connected to the ax router.
2. I believe it should matter little which router the usb is connected to.
3. If you haven't bought your routers, a mesh will avoid the micro lag having to connect to routers when you're walking between them. If already bought then you're good to go.

Ok, there is no 1GB wireless network for home use. Gigabit just for cable connection. And wifi and limited to standard protocol that comes with it.

For USB yes but direct access is function of the way it was broadcasted by router. I presume USB will show as network drive?

I've changed my main question to avoid confusion. When I say gigabit i mean the LAN connection.

So, means if i do USB sharing on the second router, all other devices can have access to it?

For ASUS router you can use it as the main router, you’ll just need to plug it in to lan port 3

Same goes with tplink also but not lan port 3( a different port)

For example:Means it’s going to be maxis/TM modem —> Asus router —> Maxis router(Ethernet port 3 on ASUS router) for VOIP

Wow I've been looking for this. This basically answers the 1st question. This should work the same way with other brands also right? I don't get the lan port 3 part. Can it be any other port on any other brand?

If I connect the router as lan to wan, the secondary will be on it's own private network even though its sharing the internet. rclxub.gif

For other brands it might be a different port, for tplink it’s Ethernet port 4

For this case, you won’t get internet on the maxis router, you’ll only get VOIP service from it, you may disable WiFi on the maxis router

There’s no IP conflict with the solution as you’ll only pass through VOIP Vlan to the maxis router

The main concern is IP conflict. If you know how to solve this, go ahead.

if using something like Mikrotik, you can use any LAN port since you would be setting everything up by yourself.

not too sure about the other brands VoIP passthrough but for Mikrotik, to use the Maxis router just for VoIP purpose, I have to bridge the VoIP VLAN and setup a PPPoE server for the Maxis router to dial properly (saw some that doesn't require the PPPoE step but oh well, it doesn't work without it for the Maxis technicolor router that I have)

Disable DHCP on your secondary router, set it as bridge. Use the LAN port to connect to your main router, not the WAN port of the secondary router.

Will usb sharing and voip works on the maxis router after the router setup as bridge mode using lan to lan?

Hi, i am actually trying to do this. I modem now is connected to new TPLink router (PPPoe internet type setup as per video), lan connection from new router to wan port in Maxis router.

It is still not connecting.

Is there some setup that i need to do in maxis router?
