frankly speaking, im using note 9 with volte and i dont see any diff with the data transfer and hd voice also lol

VoLTE is useful only if you are always use ur phone as hotspot.. when call came in, your internet will not disconnect.. from call quality wise, i dont see any difference..

without VoLTE, whenever there is a call, your signal will drop from LTE to H+/3G/2g... then back to LTE again after end call.. So it will hv intermittent disconnect in term of internet connectivity..

without drop it should fine.. but also depending on luck..

i have my Xperia ZL back to 2013 and it's still working.. battery cant lasts long only..

1 thing even, dont drop your phone.. i have issue with touchscreen after dropped my phone and luckily within warranty and i have case using..
