There has been a big title inflation in the banking sector to cater to egos and one-up each other within the same organization.
one need to look at the actual job scope to discern seniority and skill/knowledge. Even seniority nowadays are based on relationships. Just look at our new FM.
AVP can make as low as 5K rm to 15K rm per month. VPs can also make from as low as 7K to 30K rm per month.
the title director and MD are nowadays thrown around and are without meaning as well. They are called external Title for external to see.

QUOTE(gordonchin @ Apr 30 2020, 11:31 AM) Yes I receive many name cards with director as title, for some reason most are in credit operations. Means they want me to borrow money isit? I thought MD is like C level already? Yes to your query regarding name cards with director title. basically the person is a credit card sales chap. It used to be that there is only 1 MD in a bank, and that is the CEO. But title inflation is real. Nowadays individual department heads can even assign their sales persons Director and MD titles, and the title is not controlled at all. I am normally guided by this filter. The banker I am meeting, would he/she be a MD and still trying to push home mortgage or unit trust to me? I mean, if I am a large multi millionaire to billionaire, that is a different story. Even if I have 100 million ringgit, CEO of CIMB or OCBC or HSBC will not see me to push for credit card right?
