anyone heard about this? it seems that some guy was covering a sports event and the car that he was shooting from crashed n caught on fire. threw out most of his gear but didnt manage 2 get the 300mm out fast enough n it melted away. i think there're some pics somewhere on the net but dont know where. anyone seen them?

nope. canon L lenses are waterproof. they are fireproof too? hahahhaa.

300mm f2.8 is kacang puteh for sports photographer.

Ya, if he's attached to an agency, most prob the gear belongs to the agency anyway, and these corporates are insured so no real loss. Even better, the photog gets a new lens

And furthermore, its most likely that he's got insurance for his gear too. So i don think he needs to worry about coping with big losts.
