I know HK follow Chinese script. Well... obviously. Their Cantonese words have direct a counterpart in Mandarin, like 你, is 'ni' in Mandarin and 'nei' in Cantonese. But our Cantonese, we say lei. Why are we so different?

Local: Gei

Mandarin: Dui
HK: Deoi
Local: Ngam
Both of your examples geh & ngam are also used in hk la... that's their slang. Dik & dui are formal only. Lei is also how hk ppl pronounce you both lei & nei can be used.Another example:
