A research group from the Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC) at Georgia Tech has recently released a study demonstrating high-speed wireless data transfers at a staggering 15Gbps at a one meter range. The system is still in its infancy, as data rates drop off steeply with just a little added distance (10Gbps at two meters, 5Gbps at five meters), but the possibilities for speeds of this sort are promising. At 10Gbps, researches say you could download the entire DVD of Beaches to a cellphone in five seconds, although the ultra-high frequency 60GHz band used for transmission is unable to pass through human skin, creating line-of-sight issues which engineers have yet to unkink. The standard, which will be called 802.15.3C, will probably be used for Personal Access Networks, like content kiosks, where all data is swapped in direct line-of-sight. Plans for the future include lowering power consumption, increasing bandwidth, and downloading all nine seasons of the X-Files to a BlackBerry in one minute.

bro, eventhough the consumer gets hold of this tech, the malaysian telco infrastructure wont maximise its utilities due to the poor infrastructural management by telekom malaysia sweat.gif

hmm maybe i was looking at it in a macro aspect. I was just talking about utilizations of such a product for a daily consumer. Personal thought though. No offense.

And secondly i guess i enevr read the whole thing and pushed a post like that. By the way, sorry then.

Even if the technology becomes available, can you afford the bandwidth? In other words, think of how much you have to pay the telco for subscription to a multi gigabit line. Streamyx 1 MBps already RM88/month... smile.gif

we were in the same frequency once bro, this is actually talking about technology of data transfer from one mobile phone to another. Not computers and telco, bro smile.gif

Understood. If you're talking about data transfer from one mobile phone to another (like using bluetooth) then yes this tech would be fantastic. Doesn't even have to be mobile phone, I imagine this tech can be implemented in wi-fi devices too right? In this case does telco infra come into play? Wouldn't it just be dependent on the device?

The next bottleneck would be the speed of the storage device. Can any hdd or memory card read/write at 15GBps yet?
