Hey, i wanted to pursue my studies in arts and design, but i'm not sure if it is easy to get a job after graduation.

How is the design industry in Malaysia nowadays? Which specific course in the arts field should i study would be better?(like good pay, stable job and income)

The design industry in Malaysia is growing. However it is getting more competitive as there are more more people who are interested in it. As you've not specified what kind of design, it's really hard for me to give you specific thoughts on it. if you are looking for money, doing design will not give you that. Certain design jobs can give a stable income, eg: architecture/interiors but don't expect much from it unless you go above & beyond by expanding to your own business.

HOWEVER, pursuing a degree in design will not limit your future to just design jobs, I've known many friends who's done design in their studies but are currently working in various fields eg: tourism, automotive, business etc.

Scoring a job on the other hand boils down to yourself, personality, communications & problem solving plays a bigger role rather than what is on your certification.

Art and Design is blooming in Malaysia, but it could also be a tough road ahead especially after this pandemic. However, because you are not into specific preference, I can only give you on the overall view of the current market situation.

Architecture and Interior Design should be the best choice if you are into earning decent paid salary. On average, the pay in consultant firm is around RM4000-5000 for a master graduate. You could get higher around RM7000 if you work with developers or contractors.

Graphic Design can provides you with a wider spectrum of choice. Your work are not limited to only one field; from producing artist impression for development, advertisement board, illustrator for books and comics, etc. I suppose the satisfaction is higher although the pay maybe slightly lower than architecture and interior design. However, if you are working on freelance, the reward is awesome.

Fashion Design is fairly limited in Malaysia market. Most of the retailer opts for China product which produces in mass scale and cheap. You need to work out your own brand with very outstanding characteristic. Take a look at Zang Toi, Lewre, Christy Ng, etc. Maybe Dato Jimmy Lim can inspire you too. I personally think lingerie design could be a good business here in Malaysia if you could make bespoke lingerie for the VIP. This is one of my dream.

Automobile design is very limited in Malaysia. However, you can always opts to work with oversea brand to learn something. That will be a better option looking at our national cars condition.

There are more design fields that you can chose, but the lesser known, the lesser your career choice. However, thinking on the positive side, the rarity make you worth a million.

arts and design is very large scope. need to be more specific. however, in malaysia, the industry is not big. most big companies even prefer to hire foreigners. and locals also value foreign arts more than local ideas. with no proper career guide, you might end up as desktop artist rest of your life.

Short-term will be a bit susah but the industry still new, will grow

UX n UI designer seem to be in demand currently.

I'm quite interested in illustration and animation, but from most of my friends recommended me to go for interior design (though im not that good in drawing buildings )

This is a weird question but truth that i hear many people are actually freelance artists, so i was wondering if i should study other courses while learning art and design on my own(eg. accountant as my main job and illustrator as my second job), or just study art and design(eg. illustrator as my main job )

i went to look for some information on graphic design, apparently i heard that as a graphic designer the client retricts alot on theme, type of art they want etc more than interior designers

It shouldn't be an issue, as long as you have the interest & passion, there are many ways to make side hustle while working a main job. I myself learned some simple web coding & website building during my study days for a small online retail when I had any free time. Extra skills are always valuable as any diversification will not hurt your future growth.

With youtube etc, its honestly really easy to learn the basic software you need for illustration. Not all artist have a degree & not all degree holders become an artist. You can always pick up small freelance jobs online if you want to explore further. There are a number of websites that offer users to post their services for a fee and i've seen ranges from rm5/hour up to rm100/hour depending on how experience they are.

If you're passionate about it, you should go for it. At least that's going to fuel your motivation which is hard to have if you're not interested in the subject you're learning.
With design capabilities, especially if it's digital. You don't have to limit yourself to just Malaysia, you probably have a good chance to work on overseas project as well if you're capable.

There are lots of design. If you want stability, go for architecture and interior design. Ads are also big business anywhere in the world. Game, app or cgi is also an option, but bear in mind it's done here because it's cheap, so expect long hours and little pay. Also there is lots of competition. There is also product design, the pay for this can be high once you build reputation, but it is the most kais pagi makan pagi one. Malaysia is not known for design and we can only think of nasi lemak pizza so go figure.

If you LOVE what you do, and you are GOOD at what you do...

Make sure you have a blog/instagram/youtube to SHOWCASE what you do. Of course do not take the work you do for your company and post it online if the work isn't meant for public domain -- the ownership belongs to the company.

Actually this is true for every trade. You can be the best in your field, but if nobody knows about you, lol.
