How do I turn off the COVID ticker?

I seriously doubt your cpu issue is due to the ticker. Can you share with us a screenshot of the issue.

So, i've figured out it is and isn't the ticker.
When the ticker is open, this is what the utilization looks like. ![]() But when it's minimized, it's fine. The CPU spike at the time must've been coincidental and got me confused. In any case, I think i've figured it out. I'm using a MBP15 mid-2015 with integrated graphics. The GPU typically throttles the output to under 10 fps (not to be confused with screen refresh rate). If however there's an element on the web page that requires a high refresh, it goes up to 30/60 which I believe is what the ticker did. This post has been edited by ionStorm: Apr 10 2020, 02:14 PM |

My CPU usage hovers at around 20% when the ticker starts showing the news. The moment I close LYN, it drops back to less than 10%.
This happens whenever a page refreshes or loads. |

Can confirm the news ticker is causing high CPU usage. The longer I open it the more it CPU usage increases.
Collapsing the ticker immediately drops CPU usage. Edit: It's not a large increase, but definitely noticeable. With everything closed and only chrome running, I'm at 3-4%. With the ticker open, CPU consumption increases to 9%-11% with GPU usage ramping up to 30% (integrated graphics). Closing the ticker immediately drops CPU usage to 3-4%. Does this happen when you disable the ticker as well?
