I got Ibanez guitar. 1 yr old.

first time i got electric guitar again since i sold mine 20 years ago.

i never knew maintenance of electric guitar. but i recently learn from youtube about action, fretboard adjustment etc.

i just bought Elixir strings to replace the original strings, but after i installed it, it is giving some kind of fret buzz at certain
frets.

i tried adjusting the truss rod, but the buzz still happen at fret 9-10. adjusting action higher sure solve this but i find
hard to play fast with action so high.

it did not fret buzz before. could it be the new string causing it? confused.gif

String gauge too high? Ibanez is Floyed Rose bridge right.. may want to check how to adjust the action. Dont think so its the trust rod. Suspect the different strings and bridge action causing it. Maybe other sifu can help. Never own a FR bridge guitar as I'm concerned about the maintenance. If not FR, typically there's a micro adjustment at the bridge.. probably that can help.

elixir strings usually have higher tension, even tho u keep the same gauge as previous brand.
but even then u shouldnt really be experiencing buzz since it would pull more...
anyway...go get a ruler and check fret height...probably 8th fret etc has worn out...thats the most logical explanation anyway.

my guess, uneven fret wire...need to recrown, easy solution would be increasing string height or change the problem string with thinner gauge.

i find this video to be very helpful. since it addresses an ibanez as well. if you have the same neck profile, the tips would help a lot.

of course, you can only go as low as your highest fret. if it's always at the same area, probably something wrong with the frets.

if you in KL or Selangor area, go to Doc Grengg which is in Shah Alam.

He can help you with it. Its either your neck or string gauge. its my guess
