you can buy shinkansen ticket 10 mins before departure but if you are traveling during holidays and peak hour. Best to book in advance. December holiday, all reserved seats during the day are sold out 2 days before. only left with evening departure. You still can buy tickets but risk standing all the way.

Not really. So far I only saw Kura Sushi got QR scanner machine. TNG via Alipay only provided QR code. Seller must have QR scanner which most of seller in Japan only got QR Code.

Food I have recommendations for some sushi shops. Go during lunch time, they have promo sets around 1000+ yen only. Same restaurants if eat during dinner is 5/6000 yen. The independent ones I really like, feel super authentic and really worth it.

Breakfast I will go Yoshinoya/Sukiya gyudon shops, their food cheaper than 7-11 FamilyMart. Wherever area you stay you must go find the local ramen shop though, those local ones are the best.

Basically is all the subway lines is Metro or Toei, not the trains (like our KTM). This pass can buy at any subway station.

Highly depend on how you go to Osaka from Tokyo, and what you do and spend how many days in Osaka Kyoto Nara. If you take flight is much cheaper. If you want to take shinkansen then buy JR pass lo, around RM1k 7 days or 14 days 1.5k. If want then buy before Oct 1, huge price increase.

It will make sense to get a JR pass if you are travelling a lot. I travelled from Tokyo-Nagano-Toyama-Takayama-Osaka-Kyoto-Himeji and back to Tokyo

During my stay in Osaka we took day trips to Nara and Kyoto and finally Hemeji
You might want to spend at least half a day in Nara, it’s a very nice place to walk around. Train from Shin Osaka to Tokyo is about 3.5 hours on a normal Shinkansen (Hikari/Sakura). You might reach Tokyo quite late if you’re on Nara in the first half of the day. There are ticket machines and manned counters at the JR stations

Nara are nearer to Osaka City, more further away from Kyoto.  Kintetsu are the quickest way travel between Nara & Osaka.
Shinkansen Ticket no need advance booking unless you travel on Golden Week.  Just buy on spot.  Osaka to Tokyo one day got 100+ train. Every 20 minute one train depart from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo

Kintetsu are the largest private operator train company in between Osaka - Nagoya. 
From Nara to Osaka City, Kintetsu are the fastest because Kintetsu offer "Limited Express" train.

Use google map and individually add all the train fares then compare and see if it’s worth getting the JR pass… if not mistaken, all trains will increase price, not only JR pass, maybe @RegentCid kor can help confirm this

First time Japan travellers like myself also confused, cos the stations got segregate JR Shinkansen, JR metro and other non JR lines, just need to look for the correct platform. But the station masters are very helpful so don’t worry.
With JR pass you need to look for Hikari/Sakura, the Kodoma stops every station hence longer train ride, JR pass don’t cover Nozomi (few stops less compared to Hikari/Sakura). But if you are buying individual tickets, you can take Nozomi

Not worth using JR pass. Even before the price increase, if you travelling one-way shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo (for departure flight), you don't need JR pass

JR (is just like our KTM) and they build major railways connecting cities across the whole country. Beyond that, they also build a few rails in big cities (Osaka Loop Line, Tokyo Yamonate Line, Kansai/Narita airport express, etc.)

Then you have several private railways operators (Keisei, Odakyu, etc.) that specialise in certain routes

and lastly, each major cities have their own subway line (our LRT/MRT)

Kintetsu is Kintetsu, JR is JR.  Shinkansen belong to JR.  Kintetsu is private operator operates in Osaka + Nagoya + Kyoto.
From Nara to Osaka / Kyoto vice versa only 2 Operator, one is JR , one is Kintetsu.  JR only offer local train which is similar to our KTM Commuter, it stop every station.  Sometimes got Rapid service which skip some station.  Kintetsu offer "Limited Express" which is more expensive but more comfortable & more faster.  Kintetsu Limited Express is similar to our ETS.  From Osaka to Nara by JR need 1 hour, Kintetsu Limited Express only need 35 minute. 

If you Google Map Nara, you will see 2 Train Station. One is JR Nara Station, another is Kintetsu Nara Station. 

Green / Reserved / Unreserved also need choose a specific time train.  Because 8,910 Yen is Train Ticket. So you got the Train Number & Time.  If you buy Unreserved Seat, if the Train comes & Full, you stand all the way to Tokyo but this is very rare, it only happen on Japan Golden Week.

Ticket machine will show 6 train which is depart soon. you just choose which depart time suit you most.  If machine too complicated, you just go JR Ticket Office buy Shinkansen Ticket, staff will arrange best depart train for you.

Japan Train are very very accrurate!!!  16:15 train, the train will arrived platfrom at 16:10 and it will depart exactly 16:15.  If you arived Shin-Osaka Station at 16:00, I suggest you buy 16:21 or 16:40 or 17:00

Kintetsu is one of the railway operators in Japan (others are JR, Keihan, Metro, etc).

JR owns the shinkansens and Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama refers to the train service speed. The less stops it makes, the faster you reach your destination.

Green class.reserved seats are time restricted because you have booked that specific seat for that specific time. You can reschedule if you think you cannot make it in that time slot.

Unreserved seat is first come first served basis, so can take any time you want. If you missed your reserved seat time slot, you can always take unreserved at any time of your convenience, as long as it is on the same day.

Use Google Maps on PC. You'll  be able to see which line is operated by which company when you expand the stops info. If it says West Japan Railway Company or has a JR logo at the side of the line, that's JR operated and will be covered by JR Pass. In Osaka, the most convenient line is the Osaka Metro sinve I was mostly traveling up and down the Midosuji line. Osaka Amazing Pass gives unlimited rides on the Osaka Metro.

Best to get familiarized with some key routes before you go to Japan. Know which station should you take and which company the line is operated by. Navitime is a good tool to plan which station you need to take and can filter based on the tourist pass that you have. Download their rail map and study the lines as well.
