Congrats to those who just purchased Ipad pro 2020.

Like me, as i am stuck here in kampung during MCO, i find my Ipad pro 2018 11” LTE is a true blessing.

Can WFH with ease thanks to LTE (using unifi mobile) and the occasional COD mobile gaming & watching youtube/Netflix when i am bored.

I never regret not bringing back my big windows laptop.

Ipad pro can easily do the work (office works).
Proud to have it for almost 7 months now.

how is it really to use for work ? im thinking to replace my old MBP with ipad pro 11. but got some serious doubts on how it can function similarly icon_question.gif as laptop.

i think unless you are using final cut pro or some heavy rendering(that also iPad Pro works better than some laptops), it should be fine.

I'm gonna try to replace my laptop too, hoping going forward, I might not need to get a laptop to replace it.

I can envision the iPad Pro being useful for me for its mobility, even with the Magic Keyboard, it is a lot more mobile than a MBA.

Some light photo editing for my part time/hobby. But mostly office work.. multiple excel.. actually i worry about this. I think office apps cant multitask right? As in i cant open 2 excel files at once? I never used Numbers.. is it any good?

If you are mostly using Office, the iPad Pro may not be the right choice for you. In my experience Excel is a pain in the a** to use in iOS/iPadOS. You will waste a lot of time on opening and closing multiple files.

No you can’t open 2 excel files side by side. The workaround is using Split View with one file in Excel and one file in Numbers. But that is provided that your spreadsheet is mostly basic data and doesn’t involve complicated formulas as Numbers may not be able to render them correctly. Numbers is aesthetically nicer looking, but functionality wise it is vastly inferior to Excel.

But on the other hand, Microsoft is due to release a new Office app for iPadOS (the iPhone app is already available) later this year. They may improve the multitasking experience with the update, but nothing is sure for now.

Have you considered the new MacBook Air instead? The iPad Pro is superior than MacBook Air in many ways, but macOS is just so much better in handling Office files compared to iPadOS. The MBA will have no problem with light photo editing as well.
*
Yes, in fact im comparing both. Leaning more towards iPad Pro because its something new, im already using MBP 2017 so MacBook Air might not be so different, just better performance I guess.

QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Apr 17 2020, 10:27 AM)
Ah that was my major concern as well but I mainly use the numbers app so I read that it can split view so I think I'm safe here haha
*
My environment is mostly MS office.. no issue with saving the files to MS office format with Numbers.. eg pptx, ppt. ?

probably the 3 pin connector only works for power in and out, too bad it doesn't support data, else the additional usb-c could work as data too.
edit: but again it supports keyboard and trackpad input hmm.gif hmm.gif

my guess is the connector doesn't have enough bandwidth to support large data transmission unlike normal usb-c port.

this will be the next iPad Pro 2021...haha!

i think it needs to be heavy as well, else the ipad will easily topple over.

The problem with folio keyboards is that the bottom of the screen is frequently very difficult to get to. So if you're hitting a menu choice that is close to the keyboard, it's harder than it should be. Gestures (four finger swipe from the bottom of the screen for example) are also impossible.

... which is why a floating screen is a very good idea.
*
hmm.. never thought of it that way. So currently the only case that is compatible with the smart keyboards(folio & magic) is Switcheasy Coverbuddy?

Looks like a lot of MacBook Air users here. Anyone replaced their charger cable? Better to get a ori used ones or okay to get from lazada china ones? Seems there’s some jealousy among gadgets at home
*
Imo some “branded” china brands are better than the originals. But for adapters i prefer original. Safer smile.gif

Yeah thanks.
Wow you really “eat” up your chargers! How long you’ve used your MacBook? Tbh I think we sometimes takes thing for granted. Apple really looks into all aspects of form and function. Of course I was shocked by the price rm299, as I’ve replaced windows laptop charger before and wasn’t near that price. But even the charger design as the heavy part is designed at the plug area instead of the middle like usual laptops. Just found out what’s the interesting hooks are the charger are for. Or the MagSafe connector. I’ve seen few laptops flying before haha.
That’s the worry, and it seems power burns are not uncommon.
On another topic, seems all the Coverbuddy case shipment came in together at the same time. I’ve received mine yesterday too.

Will share another different perspectives. I quite like it for totally different reasons to others it seems.

Price: it’s cheaper to buy from lazada than directly from US site. Just as the case ALONE might not worth the value. I’ll explain more below. It’s a thin piece of plastic after all.
Form: Minimalism at it’s best. It’s sufficiently quality, again, depending on your needs. Measurements are spot on and there’s few small features that is very well designed. Hence to me the looks compliments Apple’s well designed package. No ugly protrusion than necessary, everything is just nice. No extra bits and it’s just to match ipad as it its. I’m happy with it.
Function: This is where I’m happy the most.

A) as a “case” by itself, it’s not meant to protect from falls but more to scratches; back and sides EXCEPT for one side. It’s also to store the apple pen perfectly - from easily fallen out which is also a risks that’s quite real. It also provides additional surface on the back, from scratches if one places on any surfaces ie tables instead of front which is the screen. It provides additional traction from slippery. In fact there’s a very sufficient tolerance to even convince me to place screen side face down on table instead of back to protect the camera lens which might affect the magnet to secure the keyboard folio cover.

B) and as a “case” to “match” and fit ipad perfectly as a package WITH folio keyboard - perfection. It’s well designed and Well thought out design. Fitment just nice. No more, no less.
Fits and secures to the Apple folio keyboard back piece strongly. Don’t think it reduces the magnet’s strength all. Keyboard works well, no lag due to additional layer of charging magnet on the case. Even the weird looking cut-out one side is meant to have perfect fit when closing with the folio. No significant increase in thickness.

And the best - accidental benefit (or flaw) is that the magnet that sticks not the keyboard side is not that strong anymore. And with the extra “section” next the pen holder - acts as the cut out for me to open ipad ala laptop w ease! I can single hand operate open up and prop it up to use! Hope you guys understand what I’m saying haha.

The only and single flaw, is that harder to access to the pen now as compared to just stick it with magnet. A trade off I’m glad to prevent the pen from falling off or easily knocked off during movement.

Pictures to further highlight my points.

Apple Pencil is the best replacement, even for note taking..

QUOTE(un_id @ May 10 2020, 08:38 AM)
I think what corebie mean was, apple pencil is the best option.. which i agree. We did discussed this before when it just come out. Apple pencil is just great. Not worth to get something like adonit which is just a litle bit less in price only. The convenient of using apple pencil with ipad is unbeatable. I did try some other alternative last time, such as adonit, it doesn’t work very good as apple pencil in terms of writing.
*
Definitely! But im not going to do art or draw.. mostly just to write. Even like logitech crayon is half the price? Maybe adonit is closer to the price so it doesnt matter.
Im also worried about the durability, seems just by dropping on the floor will damage the apple pencil.
